AKLAN

Aklan is the oldest province in the Philippines dated since 1213 AD. It is located in the northwestern
part of Panay Island in the Western Visayas Region. This province is the home of the country's
version of Mardi Gras Ati-Atihan Festival.

Many travellers pass through Aklan because it is the gateway to the fine beaches and other
attractions of the popular resort island Boracay.

Tourist destinations
Boracay is a tropical island about an hour's flight from Metro Manila in the Philippines. It has superb
long white sand beaches and is one of the country's most developed tourist destinations. White
Beach, Boracay placed 2nd in Condé Nast Traveler's 25 Best Island Beaches in the World: Readers'
Choice Awards in 2020.

Boracay, one of the top Islands in the Philippines,  is popular for its beaches and blessed with a
long stretch of powdery white sand, crystal clear and azure waters, and a stunning sunset. 

Jawili Falls
Another one of Aklan’s many waterfalls is the Jawili Falls, found at Brgy. Jawili in Tangalan, Aklan,

approximately 45 minutes away from Kalibo. This waterfall is definitely one of the most unique in the country
because of its natural pools cascading to form a gigantic limestone staircase. Spring water pours from one

basin to another, creating a series of seven mini waterfalls along its wake.

Ariel’s Point
Batason Point, or more commonly known now as Ariel’s Point, was featured in 2014 as Boracay’s top tourist

attraction. But what people don’t know is that it isn’t actually part of Boracay. This famous diving spot is one

of the tourist attractions that belongs to the town of  Buruanga, which is a completely different place.

The place has three different diving planks. The easiest one is the five-meter level, the other is eight meters

high, and the highest plank is a 15-meter dive. For those who are concerned about drowning, you’ll be happy

to know that the lifeguards are always ready  to assist divers.

Bakhawan Eco Park


Similar to Pagatpat, Bakhawan Eco Park is also a mangrove forest. The 220-hecatre park is actually dubbed as

the country’s most successful mangrove reforestation project. And a little fun fact, bakhawan, in the local

dialect, actually stands for the word mangrove.

The park is a good destination for tourists who just need to take a breather from busy streets and crowded

places. Its 1.3-kilometer long bamboo trail passes by several fish and crustacean farms, and ends with a

stunning view of the sea.

Delicacies

 Binakol is an Aklan dish made of chicken that is steamed along with some of its own
delicious juice cooked over flaming charcoal inside a bamboo container. The cooking
method causes the chicken to take on all the flavors of the natural method and results in a
juicy texture and rich flavor that lingers in the mouth.

Inday Inday. 

Inday Inday. I am not pertaining to anyone's name, but to these delicious pieces of delight. Inday Inday is the name

of this dish, described in the menu as A favorite Aklanon merienda (or dessert) dish of rice flour patty topped with
bucayo (simmered strips of young, gelatinous coconut in water.  The bucayo  on top isn't too sweet which made it one

of my favorite native delicacies.

ATI ATIAHN

A festival like no other, the event is Akeanon’s version of the Mardi Gras which has both
historical and religious origins. It’s simply one of the most-awaited events of the year for
every Akeanon from all over the world, a time to reunite, celebrate, and at the same
time glorify the Child Jesus – Santo Niño.

Ati-Atihan is a season for Kalibonhons and Akeanons together with its guests to witness
local ingenuity as the participating Ati tribes, in their colorful costumes, flock the major
streets of Kalibo, dancing to the thunderous beat of the drums, and shouting with
enthusiasm the chant “Viva kay Señor Sto. Niño!”

ANTIQUE

THE TREASURES OF ANTIQUE: 2016 (DITO KO KINUHA UNG TOURIST SPOTS AYAN NA MEANINGS)

One of the most popular local delicacy in Antique, particularly in Pandan, is called the binabak, a
shrimp delicacy made of pounded river shrimps (locally known as the patuyaw). Wrapped in banana
leaves, it is steamed along with young coconut meat and ginger.
Another popular dish in Pandan is the binakol, a chicken dish made by stuffing the chicken with
batwan leaves, lemongrass, onions, ginger, garlic, laurel leaf. Seasoned with salt, the chicken is
placed in a bamboo and cooked in an open fire.The binakol is usually served with either pickled
papaya or tambo (bamboo shoots).
