EVENTS: STRATEGIES AND IMPLICATIONS
FOR PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE

PROPOSAL AIM
The aim of this research is to investigate the concept of inclusivity
and diversity in event planning and its implications for professional
practice. This study will examine the strategies used in inclusive and
diverse event planning, with a focus on representation, and cultural
sensitivity. By conducting a critical literature review, analyzing
successful case studies, and exploring real-world examples, the
research aims to provide insights into effective approaches for
fostering inclusivity and diversity within events.

LITERATURE REVIEW ( TO FIND )

Critically analyze existing theories, concepts, and perspectives related to
inclusivity, diversity, and event planning.

Explore the significance of inclusivity and diversity in today's diverse

and interconnected world, emphasizing the role of events in fostering a
sense of belonging and equal participation.

Then highlight the challenges faced by event planners in implementing

inclusive and diverse event planning practices, including hidden
barriers and perceptions of safety.

CASE STUDIES
Fashion Week: Fashion Week events around the world have
faced criticism for their lack of diversity on the runway and in the
fashion industry as a whole. The underrepresentation of models
from different racial and ethnic backgrounds, body sizes, and
gender identities has been a recurring issue, prompting calls for
greater inclusivity and representation in the fashion world.

Met Gala 2015: The Met Gala, an annual fundraising event for the
Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, faced
controversy in 2015 when the theme was "China: Through the
Looking Glass." Critics argued that some attendees, primarily
celebrities, wore outfits that were considered appropriative or
reinforced stereotypes of Chinese culture. The outfits were seen
as superficial and lacking in cultural understanding.
