About
Central Business District is also known as the Downtown Core which is the historical and downtown
centre of the city-state of Singapore and the main commercial area in Singapore with many
integrated resorts such as the Marina Bay Sands, one of the most expensive buildings in the world,
with the most expensive standalone casino at bayfront avenue.
In Raffles Place, Tanjong Pagar and Marina Bay CBD, there are many skyscrapers with a height of 280
metres. It is one of the 11 planning areas in the most urbanized central area which forms the dense
urban core of the latter. It is bounded by Rochor in the north, Kallang in the north - east, Marina East
and Marina South in the east, Straits View in the south - east, Bukit Merah in the south, and Outram,
Museum and Singapore River in the west.
Modern history of Singapore began in this area when Stamford Raffles and representatives of the
British East India Company landed on the banks of the Singapore River in order to establish a free
port in Southeast Asia. As the old port grew along the river bank's mouth, the town naturally
expanded around it.
The name " Downtown Core" is still relatively unknown and the term Central Business District (CBD)
is often used in conversations.
By Taxi
Getting to the city by taxi is the fastest and most comfortable transport means to travel. Singapore
airport taxi drivers will serve you at any time of the day, bring you straight to your hotel and help
you with your luggage. It takes approximately 20 minutes and around S$ 20 during off-peak hours.
By Airport Shuttle
The Changi Airport Shuttle offers a convenient yet inexpensive way of traveling from and to Changi
Airport. The shuttles are shared vans that provide drop-offs to most hotels in central Singapore. This
option is recommended for solo travelers with light luggage (1 carry-on bag and 1 suitcase). It takes
25 minutes to arrive and costs S$ 9 per adult and S$ 6 per child below 12 years old.
By Bus
Your S$2 cash or S$ 1.35 (in EZ-Link card) can help you travel as far as 10 kilometers on a bus.
However, they are the slowest way to get to city. And there is only one option for you to take: Bus
36/36A, which can be caught at the basement of terminals 1, 2, and 3. It is an hour and a half
journey to the city.
Tourist Attractions
Marina Bay Sands
The opulent Marina Bay Sands resort complex includes a high-end luxury hotel, a mall with a canal
running through it, the ArtScience Museum, and the Marina Bay Sands Skypark - a vantage point for
taking in the entire city. The Skypark's viewing deck and infinity pool are found in the ship (yes, ship)
that tops the hotel.
Botanic Gardens
Singapore received its first UNESCO World Heritage nomination for the botanic gardens, and with
good reason. The city can sometimes feel like a concrete jungle, albeit a clean and comfortable one,
but the botanic gardens preserve pieces of Singapore's wilder heritage. Indeed, a walking trail leads
to the gardens' heritage trees, which are conserved as part of an effort to protect the city's mature
tree species.
