A. Answer the following questions briefly.

1. Describe Joshua’s overall strategy in his campaign of conquest in Canaan. (5 pts)
 Joshua's overall strategy in his campaign of conquest in Canaan was to use military conquest
and strategic alliances to gradually take control of the land. He employed a tactic of sieging
and conquering each Canaanite city in turn while forming alliances with some of the tribes.

2. Summarize the contribution of Joshua’s life to his nation. (5 pts each)

 Joshua succeeded Moses as the leader of Israel and led his people in conquering and settling
in the land of Canaan. After his death, the Israelites lacked a central government and fell into
a period of moral decline and conflict, which was characterized by cycles of apostasy,
bondage, prayer for deliverance, and deliverance by judges chosen by God.

3. Choose 5 among these judges (Othniel, Ehud, Shamgar, Deborah, Gideon, Tola, Jair, Jephthah,
Ibzan, Elon, Abdon, and Samson) and write a characterization of each. (2 pts each)

 Othniel: First judge of Israel who served as a military leader and brought peace to the land for
40 years.
 Deborah: A prophetess who became a military leader and delivered Israel from their
oppressors.
 Gideon: A reluctant leader who defeated the Midianites with a small army of 300 men.
 Jephthah: A rash judge who made a foolish vow and sacrificed his daughter.
 Samson: A strong judge with supernatural strength who defeated the Philistines but fell prey
to his own weaknesses.

4. What would you say was Samson’s fatal character flaw? (5 pts)

 Samson's fatal character flaw was his arrogance and overconfidence in his own physical
strength, which ultimately led to his downfall and capture by the Philistines. He repeatedly
disregarded the warnings of God and his own moral code, pursuing his personal desires at
the expense of his responsibilities as a leader and judge.

B. Answer the following in 2-3 sentences.

1.Read Joshua 9-12, the experience of Joshua with the Gibeonites may well reflect our own in the
sequence of events: Joshua relied on self to make decision; Joshua learned too late the decision
was wrong; God acted to redeem the situation. Have you seen this pattern in your own life? What
should you do about it? (5 pts)
 Yes, I have been in this situation where my judgement and decisions were wrong as I made it
in my own understanding and belief which I later realized it was a mistake. It is essential to
seek God's guidance before making decisions, and even when we fail to do so, we should
trust in God's redemptive power to turn our mistakes into blessings. We should also learn
from our mistakes and seek to make better decisions with God's guidance in the future.

2.Write down experiences wherein you have doubts about your decision, why did you act without
clear guidance – no time, didn’t think to ask, or what; what do you learn about God from such
experience; what do you learn about yourself and about Christian decision-making? (5 pts)

 I am an anxious person and who overthinks too much in a situation mostly in decision-making
and this affects the result of my decision such as my academic situation where I went home to
South Korea thinking I could work in an everyday job without degree which makes me feel
like I have not proven myself. I later realized that not continuing my college education is a
mistake as this makes me feel like I am not doing my best to myself.

3.What is the portrait of Israel’s experience during the period of the Judges’ period? (5 pts)

 The period of the Judges in Israel's history is characterized by a repetitive cycle of sin,
oppression, repentance, and deliverance by God through the judges whom He raised up. It is
a portrait of a nation in need of redemption and guidance.

4.What might the message of this book (Judges) be for the people today? (5 pts)

 The message of the book of Judges for people today could be that the cycle of sin, judgment,
repentance, and deliverance is ongoing, and that we need to remain faithful to God to avoid
the consequences of our disobedience. We should also remember that God is merciful and
will provide a way out for those who turn back to Him.

5.Read Judges 4 and 5. Answer the question according to your gender. (5 pts) Men: How can you
show appreciation for and recognition of the abilities and contributions of women in your family and
society?
Women: How can you win the respect of and recognition for your abilities from men?
LGBTQI: How can you gain the respect and recognition of others, regardless of your sexual
orientation?

 Women can win the respect and recognition of their abilities from men by confidently
asserting themselves and their accomplishments, advocating for themselves and their ideas,
and consistently demonstrating their competence and leadership qualities. It is also important
to surround oneself with supportive allies and mentors, and to actively work towards creating
