Directions

Group A (3-8 treble instruments)

1. Begin with player 1. The score indicates where and when players 2 and 3 should enter in an improvised canon.
2. If there are remaining instruments available, they should play long sustained pitches derived from player 1's current cell.
The pitch can either be 8va or 8vb. These notes should begin quietly, crescendo, and fade to silence. Other dynamic
envelopes are also possible.
3. All boxed material (cells) followed by a horizontal line are repeated ad lib. Feel free to rest a few beats here and there.
4. Unless indicated otherwise, the number of repetitions of a cell before moving on to the next cell is ad lib.
5. A wavey horizontal line indicates that the order of material is ad lib. Up to 4 repetitions of a single pitch are allowed.
6. All other instructions are notated in the score.

Group B (3-5 bass instruments; also must include drum set and at least one guitar or piano)
1. Enter when player 1 reaches cell 8.
2. All boxed material followed by a horizontal line is repeated ad lib.
3. The chord symbols can be voiced in any way desired.
4. The drum set cues the chord changes with an open hi-hat hit.
5. The drum set should lay down a mixture of simple and compound grooves over the 8th note hi-hat pattern.
6. All other instructions are notated in the score.
