Regulatory Information for Chemicals Used in 1, SCOPE, 1A ‘This recommended practice wuvides a reference listing of chemicals ised in the various AASHTO Test Meth- fs includes current regulatory codes al hazard classifications. INTRODUCTION 2.1 In an effort to assure uniform compliance with regulations, the follow: ing definitions are vited: Qe A hazardous chemical includes any substance which is in the definition of bealth hazard adopted by the United Sules Occupational Safery and Health Administration, 22 A huzardous waste include butis not limited to, any substance which bas been assigned a code number from the BPA “Unlisted (Characteristic) Haz~ adous Wastes” code. Standard Recommended Practice for AASHTO Tests AASHTO DESIGNATION: R 16-98 2.2 Should there be any questions as to whether a substance is hazardous, contact the local governing authority. 3. CHEMICAL LIST 3.1 This section contains definitions ‘of the terms and abbreviations contained in the list. All information is valid as of the date of this practice. 3.2 CAS NO. is die number assignod to a substance by the Chemical Abstracts Serviee 33. TEST METHOD refers to the AASHTO test method in which the ehemical is used. 3.4 NIOSH REL is the Recom- ‘mended Exposure Limit established by Uwe National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, The value corre ponds to the concentration in air to which the employee may be exposed. These limits are a tine weighted average for an 8-lour work day 3.4.1 Abbreviations under NIOSH REL and OSHA PEL: ppm is parts per million mgim? is milligrams per cubic meter agi? is micrograms per cubic meter CL is Ceiling Limit STEL is Short Tertn Exposure Limit, which is for a 15-minute duration f is fume dis dust rf is respirable fraction 35 OSHA PEL is the Pen Lixposure Limit established by the Occu- pational Safety and Health Adminisrs- tion, ‘These PELs went into effect Soy tember 1, 1989.
