Kuji-In
35–44 minutes

"It is imperative to not deny or suppress the inherent power that

resides within even the least of us, but to recognize its nature
and strive to render ourselves worthy of it." - John Hill

Meditation practice is associated with a purification and

activation of the kundalini and the chakras or energy centers
associated with it. The term "kundalini" comes from East Indian
mysticism and yoga. Similar concepts are found in western
mysticism and shamanic traditions. Kundalini literally means
"coiled" and refers to a primal force or energy that lies coiled
and somewhat latent at the base of the spine. A number of
English translations refer to it as "serpent power" not because it
has anything to do with serpents, but because of the perception
of being a "coiled and rising" energy. Because of this visual
association, the serpent is sometimes used as a symbol of this
energy in numerous mythologies, cultures and systems of
mysticism. The caduceus, the logo of medicine and healing, is
two serpents coiled around a central staff. In addition, there are
other disciplines that specifically address the kundalini and the
chakra energies. One of these practices is the combination of
mudras, mantras and visualizations known as Kuji-In.

Many sources caution the practitioner against focusing directly

on activating the kundalini energy because doing so can
manifest any corrupted versions of these energies. For example,

activating the first or base chakra not only releases raw energy,
but may also release and amplify any sexual issues,
perversions, etc. Each center, seal or chakra has its
characteristic traits, attributes, powers and for some individuals,
residual personal imbalances that must be addressed and
corrected. There can also be energy imbalances that result from
incorrect application of a discipline or technique. The terms
"kundalini syndrome" and "chi sickness" have been coined by
physicians who address these phenomenon.

While these cautions are not something that should scare you,
they should tell you that it is wise to proceed deliberately and
with awareness. Each individual is unique in terms of the
aspects of personal growth and Spiritual purification that they
must address. Some will be able to progress faster than others.
When one encounters resistance or emerging issues, it is best
to proceed slowly and take as much time as needed to work it
out. In other words, "do it right" the first time through. That, after
all, is what the journey is all about.

Kuji-In is Japanese for nine symbols, nine syllables, nine seals

or nine gates.

Nine Symbols = Nine Syllables = Nine Seals = Nine Gates =

Nine Chakras = Nine Levels of Consciousness. Note that some
religious and shamanic sources recognize the existence of nine
chakras or energy centers. This includes the seven chakras
associated with the endocrine glands and nerve plexuses in the
physical body, and two additional ones in the etheric body.
Edgar Cayce once said that there are actually twelve chakras.

The nine syllables (Japanese) are Rin, Kyo, Toh, Sha, Kai, Jin,
Retsu, Zai, Zen.

It is common practice to associate the nine syllables with nine

Kuji-In about:reader?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.1paradigm.org%2Fkuji-in.html

chakras. Some literature correlates each syllable or center with

a Spirit or Deity. In this author's perspective, there are attributes
of consciousness associated with each level or syllable. These
are, however, internal and not external. The consciousness is an
aspect of one's own greater mind, not a separate external
consciousness.

The 9 hand seals (or Mudras) technique and its teachings are
very ancient and may have preceded the Hindu religion. The
earlier versions are believed to have been passed down orally,
and then later recorded in Sanskrit. They are a practice
attributed to the Hindu religion from its earliest times. It was
devised as a way to bring the virtues of the Spirit into the
physical experience. The nine hand seals practice was later
adopted by Esoteric Buddhism. The mudras remained the
same, or similar, but Buddhist mantras where added. The
original mantras were in Sanskrit. The Buddhist movement went
to Tibet and China, where the tradition was passed on to the
hermetic and esoteric groups. The techniques migrated from
China and Tibet to Japan. In Japan, the kuji-in disciplines were
adopted by Esoteric Buddhism. The Ninja and some Samurai
groups were practitioners of Buddhism. They adopted the Kuji-In
practice into their martial arts with the focus on developing
power. The Kuji-In mudras have been popularized in some of
the ninja movies as the source of the special mental and psychic
powers attributed to the mystical ninja.

The kuji-in technique is composed of a combination of the

application of the mudra (hand postures), mantra (associated
prayer or affirmation), and the mandala (the associated symbol
or visualization). The goal of the kuji-in technique is the quest for
knowing the truth about ourselves. It is a contemplation of
higher principles, an application of noble behavior in our daily

lives, and mental ability to perceive knowledge that is not

studied, but revealed. The side effects of this revelation are the
acquisition of strength, control, healing powers, telepathy,
clairvoyance and the ability to manifest. As with any meditation
practice, the results are formed and defined by the practitioner's
intent. If the intent is pure and selfless, the manifested results
will be accordingly positive and powerful. If the intent is self-
centered and power focused, the results may yield a kind of
power, but a power that is deceptive and ultimately destructive.

This is a practice that can, if applied with a pure intent,

accelerate enlightenment. The activation of kundalini and the
purification of one's self are integral to this game plan.

It should not be surprising that a practice with such an ancient

history that has diffused into so many cultures and religions over
a very long period of time would have some variations in how it
is practiced and understood. There are over 80 different
versions of the kuji-in mudras in the various Japanese Buddhist
sects alone.

In my own research and practice, I have made a few

adjustments to this practice.

First, in some of the hand positions (Mudras), I connect the

finger tips. The reason is that the finger tips are the termination
points of meridians. When I experiment, I get a more powerful
effect by doing this.

Second, I change the mantras to my own native language

(English). My intent is to capture the meaning and intent with the
affirmation. Some will make the argument that the mantras
should only be spoken in the original Sanskrit. I don't dispute the
argument, but I strongly urge anyone to not repeat affirmations
or mantras that they don't understand. To get powerful results

4 of 39 8/3/2023, 9:39 PM
Kuji-In about:reader?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.1paradigm.org%2Fkuji-in.html

from this kind of practice, one needs to have a powerful intent

and clear understanding invested in the practice and the words
used in it. The meaning and intent of the affirmation or mantra
must be understood and felt in order to get the proper effect
from it.

Third, I use the chakras and the corresponding endocrine

centers as the focus points. Some kuji-in practice descriptions
correlate with this and some don't. Also, rather than attributing a
color or image to visualize for the chakra, I suggest visualizing a
white light and allowing it to form its own color and pattern. One
can then observe its state and how it changes with practice.

I also correlate overlapping concepts from the Chinese energy

system, Qi Gong, Pranayama and the Huna energy system. In
addition to emphasizing commonality of concepts between
cultures, I simplify as much as possible. This does not need to
be hard.

NOTE: When one affirms something to the effect of "I am the

divine consciousness" or anything similar, it should invoke a
sense of humility ... not a sense of self importance. When we
first become one with "God", "the Force", "Infinity", etc., we
become, metaphorically speaking, the tail on the dog. The tail
does not wag the dog. With practice and self purification, we
may become the whole dog.

As with any Spiritual practice, Intent is of pre-eminent

importance. You may also notice as you practice these mudras
and mantras that your effects will be felt more quickly and
powerfully when you combine energy enhancing exercises
including but not limited to Qi Gong, Pranayama, Huna, Robert
Bruce's energy development, etc.

It is important to avoid impatience. Spiritual growth cannot be

5 of 39 8/3/2023, 9:39 PM
Kuji-In about:reader?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.1paradigm.org%2Fkuji-in.html

rushed. In the course of practicing any Spiritual discipline, even

a minor kundalini awakening may uncover some unresolved
personal issues. Pause and take the time to address them
properly. If you need counseling to help, then get counseling. If
you need to clean up some relationship issues, take pause and
do so. You don't want to burn the house down because you are
in a hurry to cook a meal.

Each of the Kuji-in practices has a correspondence with a

chakra, energy center and level of consciousness. Each chakra
corresponds to a physical endocrine gland. Edgar Cayce stated
that each endocrine gland center is associated with and
influenced by a particular afterlife realm through its associated
astrological planetary correlation. According to Cayce, the
planetary realm is not that of the physical planet, but a distinct
plane that is inhabited. According to Cayce, each chakra and
each astrological symbol is associated with a particular
personality aspect in the individual.

The lowest endocrine gland in our body, the sexual glands, is

associated with the lowest afterlife realm in the hierarchy of
Spirit realms. The pituitary gland is associated with the highest
afterlife realm in the hierarchy. The afterlife realm we travel to
upon death is determined by the highest endocrine gland within
our body that we have Spiritually activated. Activation of the
highest Spiritual center, the pituitary gland, creates a Spiritual
awakening and enlightenment that brings an awareness of our
one-ness with God, the Infinite or the Source. We can achieve
Spiritual enlightenment through meditation and any other
experience that unites our awareness with that of God, or the
one Source.

The Kuji-in meditations are a system of raising energy and

raising consciousness. They are a means of stimulating the

Kuji-In about:reader?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.1paradigm.org%2Fkuji-in.html

awakening and arising of the kundalini. The awakening of the

kundalini requires the purification of the energy of the chakras.
Therefore, doing the kuji-in meditations may stimulate chakra
activity and bring any energy imbalances or unresolved issues
to the practitioner's attention.

Practicing the Kuji-In

In the Indian energy system the basic energy is called Prana

and the breathing practices used to concentrate and channel
Prana are called Pranayama. In Indian Yoga, there are dozens
of different breathing patterns intended to produce different
effects. In the Chinese energy system, the basic energies are
called Jing, Qi (or Chi), and Shen. In Taoist yoga, the two main
energy circulations are the microcosmic orbit and the
macrocosmic orbit, both focused on the conception vessel and
governing vessel meridians. In addition, there are energy
movement patterns incorporating the additional ten pairs of
meridians. In the Huna energy system, the basic energies are
called Mana, Mana Mana, and Mana Loa and the basic
breathing pattern to concentrate and channel energy is called
the Ha Rite. These different energy systems are really
describing the same thing, only from the perspective of different
cultures. Apparent differences result from slightly different
emphasis or understanding developed in each culture and the
inadequacies of record preservation and translation.

For the purposes of this practice, I recommend using what is

basically the "yogic complete breath".

• Place your tongue against the roof of your mouth. This is

borrowed from Taoist yoga. It connects the governing vessel
and conception vessel meridians forming a closed loop. This
helps to balance the energies that are activated through these

7 of 39 8/3/2023, 9:39 PM
Kuji-In about:reader?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.1paradigm.org%2Fkuji-in.html

practices.

• Place one hand on the abdomen and one on the chest.

• Practice abdominal breathing. Inhale deeply, expanding only the

abdomen and not the chest. Abdominal breathing uses the
muscular diaphragm to move air in and out of the lungs.

• Practice chest breathing. Inhale deeply, expanding only the

chest and not the abdomen. Chest breathing uses the
accessory muscles of respiration to move the rib cage and,
thereby, move air in and out of the lungs.

• Combine the two distinct motions. First, inhale expanding the

abdomen only, then holding the abdomen in extension, inhale
with the chest filling the lungs to the maximum capacity.

• Exhale in the opposite sequence. First, empty the chest while

holding the abdomen extended. Then contract the abdomen
emptying all of the air from the lungs.

• Practice this pattern until it becomes second nature. You can

remove your hands from your chest and abdomen.

• Note: You may have seen, read or been taught slightly different
variations of this breathing routine. This is my practice
preference. Feel free to experiment and use what is working
best for you.

Kuji-In about:reader?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.1paradigm.org%2Fkuji-in.html

There are two hand positions commonly used with this syllable
or chakra. In one, the middle fingers are extended while the
other fingers turn inward with the finger tips touching. Some
sources claim that this position is associated with a focus on the
Spiritual aspects of this mudra. In the alternate position, the
index fingers are extended instead. This alternate position is
associated with a focus on power and a projection of power and
is associated with martial arts applications. It is the second
version with the index fingers extended that you see in ninja
mudras.

The Rin focus point is half way between the anus and sexual
organs, directly between the legs. This is the Meng Men point or
gate of vitality. It is associated with three acupuncture points
Governing Vessel 4 (Gv4), Conception Vessel 4 (Cv4) and
Conception Vessel 5 (Cv5). This is a junction point between the
conception vessel and governing vessel and is an important link
in the microcosmic orbit.

Rin Visualization and Mandala

Kuji-In about:reader?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.1paradigm.org%2Fkuji-in.html

The visualization is fire or raw energy. Alternately visualize a

bright light glowing at the focus point. Observe the color of the
light or light pattern and not how it changes with practice.

Rin is associated with the first or root chakra, with strength of

body and mind. Rin is associated with mental focus and energy
generation. Rin is associated with being physically well and
having a positive outlook, self confidence, trust in self and trust
in the infinite.

The corresponding endocrine gland is the gonads. According to

Edgar Cayce, the energy of the sexual glands, when
misdirected, may bring sexual perversions and unbridled
sensuality. If this Spiritual center is the highest center activated
during a person's life, at death they may dwell in the
corresponding afterlife realm associated with the planet Saturn.
This afterlife realm can be referred to as the realm of earthly
woes and is not a pleasant place. It is similar to the afterlife
realm which is known by Catholics as purgatory, a place of
cleansing, purification and starting over. Activating the root
chakra brings one into the direct experience of any unresolved
urges and unfinished business of a sexual nature. Once purified,
the root chakra energy becomes a driving force for the activation
of higher chakras and consciousness.

As you activate this center, you may have to confront any

unresolved sexual issues that you may have.

For the Kyo mudra, extend your index fingers and bend your
middle fingers over your index fingers so that the tips of your

your other fingers with the finger tips touching.

The Kyo focus point is the second chakra which corresponds to

the lower dantian in the Chinese energy system. The point is
about 2 inches (3 finger widths) below the navel.

Visualize an intense bright white light that flows from the outside
in with your inhalation and flows from the inside out with your
exhalation. This is connecting your inner energy with the energy
around you.

The Kyo Kuji-In activates the flow of energy within your body
and outside of you in your environment.

The chakra associated with kyo is the second chakra. The

corresponding endocrine gland is the leydig gland or cells of
leydig. According to Edgar Cayce, the lyden (or leydig) gland,
located above the sexual glands, is the starting point of the
soul's activity toward higher levels of Spiritual consciousness.

Kuji-In about:reader?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.1paradigm.org%2Fkuji-in.html

The second chakra is a door through which the soul may enter
higher afterlife realms. This chakra is often referred to as the
"seat of the soul", the point of entry and exit of the soul into a
physical body.

In the meridian energy system, an energy center called the

"lower dantian" is located here. This center is regarded as a
reservoir where Jing or vital energy is stored. This energy also
corresponds to Mana in the Huna energy system. According to
Chinese tradition, Jing is stored in the kidneys and is the most
dense energy within the body. Jing is said to be the material
basis for the physical body and is, therefore, an important
element in internal martial arts. The jing circulates through the
eight extraordinary vessels and creates bone marrow and
semen, among other functions.

In Huna concepts and terms this energy is Mana. It is at this

level that the Soul connects with the physical body.

According to Edgar Cayce, if this gland is the highest gland

activated during a person's life, they will transition to the realm
of Neptune at death. This afterlife realm is referred to as the
realm of mysticism, where souls have the ability to have direct
experience with the Creator and perceive the Creator. This gives
the urges to seek the unusual, the mystical and the unseen
forces around us. People who come to Earth from this realm
seem peculiar to others and are many times misunderstood.

As you activate this center, you may have to confront any

tendency you may have to being distracted by fascination or
obsession with the mystical, psychic, Spiritual or occult realms.

The Toh Kuji-In enhances your positive relationship with your

immediate environment and the universe, resulting in improved
harmony and balance.

The chakra associated with Toh is the third or solar plexus

chakra. The corresponding endocrine gland is the adrenal
glands. The adrenal glands are located on top of the kidneys.
Physiologically, they are two types of glands. The adrenal cortex
secretes many hormones associated with inflammation, healing
and mobilizing energy reserves and is controlled by the pituitary
gland. The adrenal medulla is an extension of the sympathetic
nervous system and secretes adrenaline. We are acutely aware
of this center in times of stress, when it pours adrenaline into the
blood stream to aid us in fighting or fleeing.

According to Edgar Cayce, the adrenals are the storehouse of

our emotional karma. From these glands come the negative
energy of anger and hatred and the positive energy of
compassion and enthusiasm. If this gland is the highest
activated during life, one will be able to dwell in the
corresponding afterlife realm associated with the planet Mars.
According to Cayce, this afterlife realm is referred to as the
realm of anger. Cayce said this realm was the place to learn
how to control the warrior-like power, aggressions and urges
that each soul has the ability to project. People who come to
Earth from this realm may bring with them anger, impulsiveness,
and a temper. Such people may have an exalted opinion of
themselves, but it makes them courageous.

The Sha focus point is over the thymus gland, in the middle of
the sternum, just below the manubrium or approximately on the
horizontal line between the arm pits.

Visualize and feel a very bright light radiating from your chest.
Observe the light to see the color or color patterns and note how
they change with practice.

The chakra associated with Sha is the fourth or heart chakra.

The Sha Kuji-In develops enhanced healing and regeneration
influence and ability. This increased healing efficiency is the
result of the higher levels of energy passing through our energy
channels (Meridians) and heart chakra. This healing vibration
will eventually radiate around you, causing other people to heal
as you spend time with them.

The fourth or heart chakra is the crossroads between the higher

Spiritual centers and realms and the lower centers and realms.
At this level, energy is less structured and not encumbered by
restrictive definitions, biases and polarities. It is at this level that
the Spirit connects with the Soul.

The corresponding endocrine gland is the thymus.

Physiologically, the thymus is the heart of the immune system
and secretes hormones important to healing, immune function
and longevity. The thymus gland is associated with love. Love
opens all doors. At this gland, love is awakened, bringing with it
compassion, consideration, unselfishness, sincerity and
honesty.

This energy is associated with Qi or Chi in the Chinese energy

love. Sympathy, the alleviating of hardships, the seeking of love,
beauty and song are some influences that people from that
realm possess. There is a strong attraction to the opposite sex.

According to Chinese tradition, Qi is stored in the liver. Qi is said

Thyroid hormones regulates metabolism. According to Cayce,

the thyroid gland is related to will-power. Hyper-thyroidism, or

overactive thyroid, may result from the misuse of the will for
selfish and domineering purposes. When little effort is made to
exercise the will at all, the result can be hypo-thyroidism. The
energy of the thyroid gland opens the door into the psychic
realms of consciousness.

According to Edgar Cayce, if this gland is the highest gland

activated during a person's life, they will dwell in the afterlife
realm associated with Uranus. According to Cayce, this afterlife
realm is referred to as the realm of the psyche. Cayce said it
was natural for every soul to have a sixth sense. The Uranus
afterlife realm is where the soul develops psychic ability. Uranus
is also the realm of extremes. It gives people who came from
there an interest in the occult and psychic phenomena. Such
people are prone to have times of smoothness and, at other
times, periods of ecstasy and depression.

As you activate this center, you may have to confront any

unresolved issues you have with mood swings, depression,
drive, motivation, etc. You may also have to address any issues,
preconceptions, blocks or biases that you may have toward
psychic and intuitive experiences.

The focus point is the middle of the head between and slightly
above the ears.

Visualize and feel a very bright light radiating from the center of
your head directly behind your eyes. Observe the light to see
the color or color patterns and note how they change over time.

The chakra associated with Jin is the sixth chakra. This mudra is
used to open your mind to the thoughts that others project from
their mental activity, or telepathy. It can help you gain an
understanding of why people do the things they do. If you want
to develop compassion you can use this mudra to enhance your
empathy for others. If you dont judge what you perceive, you will
perceive with more clarity.

The corresponding endocrine gland is the pineal. According to

Cayce, the pineal gland is situated a little above the pituitary
gland and is the so-called "Mind of Christ" gland. When this
gland has been truly awakened, one may experience Spiritual
Holy Communion. It is by this gland that the mind of the soul
meets the Holy Spirit. This gland, when stimulated daily through
meditation, can bring seer-ship or prophecy.

According to Edgar Cayce, if this gland is the highest gland

activated during a person's life, at death they will be able to
dwell in the corresponding afterlife realm associated with the
planet Mercury. Mercury is associated with high mental abilities.
People who come to Earth from this realm are gifted souls who
need to watch out for the temptation of self-aggrandizement or
their abilities will be merely stumbling stones upon their path.
Mercury brings understanding, specifically the understanding of
the other spheres.

For the Retsu mudra, make a fist with the index finger extended.
Wrap the fingers of the other hand around the index finger with
the tip of the opposite thumb and index finger contacting the tip
of the extended finger.

Retsu Focus Point

The focus point is between the eyes and directly behind them.

Visualize and feel a very bright light radiating from the middle to
the crown of your head. Observe the light to see the color or
color patterns and note how they change over time.

The chakra associated with Retsu is the seventh chakra. The

Retsu Kuji will alter your perception of gross matter so you will
be able to perceive the different flows of energy composing our
space-time multidimensional universe. All matter consists of
energy waves and all matter is being continuously re-created!

The corresponding endocrine gland is the pituitary. The pituitary

gland is the master gland of the body. It is situated between and
behind the eyes at the base of the brain, acting as the third eye
of ancient mysticism. It is through the pituitary gland, the highest
endocrine gland, that ultimate awakening comes. It is through
the energy of the pituitary gland that one may enter the very
presence of God through meditation and prayer.

This chakra is associated with the upper dantian energy

reservoir in the Chinese energy system and the energy is called
shen.

In the Huna energy system, this energy is called mana loa.

If this gland is the highest gland activated during a person's life,

at death they will be able to dwell in the corresponding afterlife
realm associated with the planet Jupiter. According to Cayce,

this afterlife realm is referred to as the realm of high mindedness

and large groups. People who come to Earth from this realm
may bring with them universality and ennoblement. They may
turn their attention to large groups of people or nations. They
can be expansive and may become blessed with wealth, which
includes a wealth of friends, broad-mindedness, and the ability
to consider others. They often have grand ideas and notions.

As you activate this center, you may have to confront any

unresolved issues of self-centeredness and the temptations that
may accompany personal charisma.

There is no corresponding endocrine gland or chakra in the

human physical body for the Zai kuji. The focus point is above
the head.

Visualize a large stream of light extending from the lower

chakras and extending upward.

Practicing with the Zai kuji helps establish a relationship with the
Universal components of creation: the elements. These
elements are Spiritual as well as physical. This forms a basis for
the power of manifestation. Visualize being in harmony with
nature. Visualize the flow of energy from nature to you, and from
you to nature. After a while, notice your increasing awareness
that nature is alive, and that you can communicate with it.
Nature will interact with you within the limits of natural law.

In the second version of the Zen mudra, one hand makes a fist
and rests in the cup of the other hand with the thumb tips
touching.

The Zen focus point is the open expanse of the heavens.

Visualize an infinite vast light filling an infinite vast void and feel
yourself being a part of it.

Illumination is the highest state of mind. Illumination is a kind of

Completeness, accomplished by Meditation. By using this
practice, you can eventually disappear from the common mind.
You are still there, of course, but others in the common mind
cannot register your presence, because your vibration is higher
than what their minds can recognize or interpret as real. To
practice, imagine simple emptiness, calm white light
everywhere; then visualize melding with the white light. It is
believed that to the average person you might become invisible.
