SPECIFIC COURSE INFORMATION

a. Course Description
The course introduces students to advanced mathematical tools to be applied on engineering problems
and to Linear Algebra using MATLAB. Discussion of complex numbers and functions as a prerequisite
in the discussion of future topics. Transform techniques, such as Fourier are then given emphasis, and
their use in solving equations are demonstrated. The topic on power series expansion of functions
prepares students on how to solve ordinary differential equations using the power series method.

SPECIFIC GOALS FOR THE COURSE
a. Course Objectives
The course aims to equip the students with the necessary advanced tools for solving engineering
problems in future courses such as signal processing and control systems engineering.
b. Course Outcomes
By the end of the course, the students will be able to:
1. Evaluate matrices, complex numbers and complex functions.
2. Use Fourier tools to analyze functions in frequency domain.
3. Use power series methods to solve differential equations.
c. Student Outcomes
