TABLE TENNIS
Table tennis- also known as
Ping-Pong and whiff-whaff, it’s
a sports in which two or four
players hit a lightweight ball
back and forth across a table
divided by a net using a small
rackets.

Early History and Evolution of Ping
Pong/Table Tennis
During the 1900s, experimentation happened with different
types of balls;
1. Cork balls didn’t bounce enough.
2. Rubber balls bounced too much.
3. A celluloid ball that provide the perfect bounce.

Steve Grant has also traced the name “Ping-Pong” in the late 19th
century, and later it was trade by Parker Brothers in the United States.
Nature of the Game

The overall objective of the game is to win the match by


winning enough points to win more than half of the number of
maximum possible games to be played between you and your
opponent in singles or doubles.

Two main footwork patterns in table tennis are:

1. Side to side

2. In and out.

This is done
swiftly when you are close
to the table. Always move
your outside foot whether
you are moving to the left
or right.

In and out Footwork Pattern

This is employed
to return a short service.
To make this return, move
your body forwards (IN) to
reach the ball to play your
stroke and afterwards
return back (OUT) to the
ready position.

GROUP ACTIVITY PING PONG DANCE
Group the class with 7 members each,
the class will use and practice the different
basic skills of table tennis griping, drills and
footwork as a dance steps to create a
simple exercise routine.(maximum of 3
minutes)
