Reflection on Technology in Education

This reflection paper discusses the student's experience in the Technology for Teaching and Learning 1 course. The instructor, Mr. Nelson Salosagcol, provided an orientation that outlined the course description, activities, and grading system. Through the course, the student learned new techniques for utilizing ICT tools and modern education platforms. While technology has made gathering information easier, the student worries that students now rely too heavily on online sources and are less inclined to read books. As a future educator, the student recognizes the need to adapt to changing technology and remain open to improvements in teaching methods.

REFLECTION PAPER
Technology for Teaching and Learning 1 or Prof Ed 108 is one of the subject that
I need to take to complete my 18 professional units for me to be able to take the
Licensure examination for Teachers. Technology for teaching and learning 1 is an
introductory course that explores basic knowledge, skills and values in the use of
technology for teaching and learning, as explained in the orientation given to us by our
instructor, Mr. Nelson Salosagcol on the first day of class. In the orientation, Sir Nel
explained the course description, activities and grading system of the subject. He also
discussed every topic that we will be tackling and this give us the idea of what will
happen on his class for the following weeks and it gives us advantage to do an advance
reading and research to prepare for his lessons.
Since teaching is being more modernized because of technology, each of our
lessons in this subject has taught me a lot of new ideas on how to utilize ICT Tools, and
even use the new platforms for education that has not been used way back when I was
in college that I wish were introduce earlier that time too and I thought it would have
been easier just like now. When I compare the style of how education was taught then
and now, I felt happy on how easy students can gather information with just one click
unlike the old times where if we will not read books from the library, we will not gather
information needed for our reports, assignments or other school requirements. On the
other hand, I am glad to experience both the traditional way of learning and the modern
way of learning today.
In highschool and in college, I have finished three I.T subjects so I thought that
this subject is easy because I am fond of the new technology and ever since I was
young, computer and videogames are already a part of my childhood. I was able to
learn new terminologies and new techniques on how to use the new and modernized
platform through this subject and it gives me lots of new ideas on how to improve on
using them. But on the other hand, as technology improves, it just sadden me when I
realize that students nowadays rely a lot on the internet, and on the bad side is they got
a lot of time with them to slack off and cram afterwards to do homework or review or
even so lazy to grasp a book to read because with just one click all the answers to their
questions are already provided by the search engines so their mind set is “why should I
read a book if I can search everything on google?”
This generation we are living right now is all about the rise of the new technology
and we can’t do anything about it. Traditional way of living is fading and AL Intelligence
is rising. Soon everything will be automated and as a future educator, I need to cope
with the changing world. As I compare how education was done in the early 2000’s and
now, students are being more and more technology dependent and so as teachers.
Whatever technology brings, we should be open for change for the betterment not only
of the students but also of us to continuously improve our future way of teaching.
