Personal Philosophy for using technology in education

Educational Technology involves the usage of technology within the classroom to

enhance the teaching learning process. My philosophy on technology in education is that it is one

of today’s greatest achievements within the twenty first century generation.

There are some advantages and disadvantages in using technology in the classroom. I also

believe that this is a useful tool to incorporate in the classroom hence it is a very helpful tool for

learning and also have a lot of benefits. Some of these benefits of technology are that; it helps to

improve overall skills in literacy, as a matter of fact technology helps to enhance all subjects area

in the teaching and learning process, making learning more interesting, and also prepares

students for the future.

It was amazing to see how simple things such as a cellular phone could be useful in

classroom to captivate students’ attention and ultimately used to convey important information.

At some points in this course I felt frustrated as most of these technological devices were new to

me, making the process rather tedious, but I was determine to finish this course successfully,.

Technology is global; it touches every part of an individual lives around the world,

starting from our communities and homes. Most educators are beginning to explore the true

potential technology have to offer for teaching and learning. However, having the request

knowledge about technology will help students acquire the skills they need to survive in a highly

technological knowledge-based economy.

My lecturer in this course was very patient and afforded me the opportunity to manipulate

many of the newer devices, the interactive PowerPoint, podcast, web quest, digital story and wiki

she also gave suggestions as to how they can be used in the classroom. Many interactive
activities were given during the course which gave me equal opportunity to showcase what I

have learnt. I was also exposed to different materials highlighting the importance of integrating

technology in the classroom and also how to prepare an ASSURE Lesson Plan. In preparing

this lesson plan I have learnt how to use technology in my lesson and to cater for the different

learning abilities in the class.

With this in mind we need to ensure that teachers should be competent enough so as to

be able to meet the changing needs and demands of our students. For over several years

educators are trying their best to incorporate technology in the schools so as to get the teaching

and learning process more time consuming, in order to get more concepts across to students, to

cater for the different learning abilities, to enhance learning, to also encourages interactive

activities and to motivate them to participate.

With technology integration increasing in our society it is very important that educators

possess the skills and behaviours of digital age professionals. To be competitive and effective,

teachers must become comfortable being co- learners with their students and colleagues around

the world hence technology offers such opportunity. As educators, we need to take into

consideration that not all students learn in the same manner, so we need to use a variety of

technological methods to cater to their different learning styles.
