THE TEACHER AND THE SCHOOL CURRICULUM

Activity 5

Name: MARYJEL C. SUMAMBOT

Section: BSED FIL 3-A
Instructor: JANRY M. ORTEGA, LPT
Instruction: Answer the following question. (Minimum of 5 sentences per question)

1. What is the role of technology in education?

Despite the fact that technology is finally being integrated into education,
its application in teaching and learning remains a difficulty. Despite the
fact that many schools now have quick access to technology, well-trained
instructors, and a favorable policy environment, technology use in the
classroom remains low. Teachers' pedagogical ideas have been blamed
for low levels of technology adoption in education. Educators hope to
achieve pedagogical change and solve fundamental challenges that affect
learners with special needs by using technology into the classroom. As a
result, technology can be viewed as both a tool and a catalyst for change.
Today's technologies for improving and facilitating learning can be found
in almost every classroom. We can only say we have accepted technology
in education when it is employed for both teaching and learning, ignoring
other contextual variables such as unequal access to technological
advancements and connected devices across schools and districts. The
major goal of integrating technology into schools is to transform how
teachers and students gather, access, analyze, present, and send data.
2. Is technology needed in delivering curriculum in the 21 st century? Explain
your answer?

Yes, but remember that technology is not the answer to 21st-century

education; it is just a tool to enhance education and learning. Technology
should not be taught as a separate school subject; rather, it should be
used in all classrooms as a tool. Any technology-related learning should
be centered on the class's topic and objectives. The use of technology in
pedagogy is determined by a variety of factors, including efficacy, time
savings, and improved outcomes. As I previously stated, technology is a
tool for fact-based learning and allows students to conduct extensive
research utilizing the internet and other resources. At the same time,
these students are learning extremely significant research skills that they
will be able to apply at higher levels of education, including universities
and beyond. Technology may be utilized to improve critical thinking and
literacy abilities, assessing the authenticity and correctness of online
content which are important aspects of 21st-century learning.

3. How technology helps students in this pandemic? Site an example.

When the world was struck by the coronavirus and countries went into
lockdown, all schools were forced to close immediately to prevent the
virus from spreading. Because we don't know when the pandemic will
stop, teachers had to discover new strategies to interact with their kids.
What seemed unthinkable only a few months ago is now a reality for
many, and educational software tools allow students and teachers to
communicate and learn. When students and teachers are not in the
same classroom, conversations and communication are more
challenging. This is one of the most significant problems for distance
learning. Self-direction is required for the majority of the assignments,
which may be challenging for younger children to focus on while
learning. This is where teaching management technologies like Google
Classrooms and Canvas, as well as virtual reality, has come into play to
let students meet and communicate with their teachers more effectively.
During the coronavirus pandemic, virtual teaching became necessary.

4. How technology enhances teaching and learning?

Schools must incorporate technology, such as the Internet, an intrinsic

component of the classroom setting to assist students become productive
members of the technological age. The Internet (also known as the World
Wide Web) is a massive information storage facility. This is an excellent
resource tool in the classroom because it allows students to collect and
acquire information from a variety of sources. On the Internet, there are
several tools that allow students to communicate not only with one
another, but also with people all over the world. E-mail, chats,
newsgroups, and message boards are examples of these tools. They all
help pupils improve their communication skills and reduce their dread of
face-to-face confrontations. There are many ways that technology can
enhance teaching and learning. Examples include: more engagement,
greater motivation by students, improved communication skills,
assessable to students of all levels and abilities, good assessment tool,
excellent research tool, better prepare students for post secondary
education and/or workplace, encourages independent learning, and
fosters cooperative learning.
5. What is the relationship between technology and curriculum?

Many educators have struggled to integrate technology into their

classrooms, according to research. This could be due to the fact
that many educators have yet to investigate the connection
between technology and pedagogy. As teachers try to integrate
technology into their classrooms, this might be a big help in
teaching critical thinking. At the same time, in order for technology
to be useful in the classroom, it should only be used when it is
suited for a specific instructional task. Furthermore, technology
can only be an effective teaching tool if teachers are involved in
technology adoption decisions. This is because teachers are
responsible for facilitating instruction and incorporating
technology in the classroom.

6. What are the roles of technology in teaching and teachers and learning
and students?

ICT integration in education generally means technology-based teaching and learning process
that closely relates to the utilization of learning technologies in schools. Due to the fact that
students are familiar with technology and they will learn better within technology-based
environment, the issue of ICT integration in schools, specifically in the classroom is vital. This is
because, the use of technology in education contributes a lot in the pedagogical aspects in
which the application of ICT will lead to effective learning with the help and supports from ICT
elements and components. It is right to say that almost all ranges of subjects’ starts from
mathematics, science, languages, arts and humanistic and other major fields can be learned
more effectively through technology-based tools and equipment. In addition, ICT provides the
help and complementary supports for both teachers and students where it involves effective
learning with the help of the computers to serve the purpose of learning aids. Computers and
technology does not acts as a replacing tools for quality teachers but instead they are
considered as an add-on supplements needed for the better teaching and learning. The need for
ICT integration in education is crucial, because with the help of technology, teaching and
learning is not only happening in the school environment, but also can happen even if teachers
and students are physically in distance. However, ICT integration is not a one-step learning
process, but it is a continual process of learning that provides proactive teaching-learning
environment.
