AIR BRAKE

1.LOW AIR WARNING SYSTEM FAILS OR SYSTEM IS ACTIVATED

 Truck start
 Wheels are chocked, Brakes are applied, Vehicle in neutral, Vehicle is safe and
secure.
 Primary secondary air pressure gauges are in normal operating range between 80 -
145 psi. Current air pressure is ……...psi.
 YELLOW OUT (APPLY) & RED OUT (APPLY)
 Now I will reduce the air pressure until the low air warning system activates
 Low air warning system is activated at 60 psi which is good above 55 psi.
 Schedule 01
 Note down in the Log book - Call the operator -Truck is in / out of service

2.INOPERATIVE TRACTOR PROTECTION VALVE SYSTEM

 Truck start
 Wheels are chocked, Brakes are applied, Vehicle in neutral, Vehicle is safe and
secure.
 Primary secondary air pressure gauges are in normal operating range between 80 -
145 psi. Current air pressure is ……...psi.
 Disconnect the Service line (Blue)
 YELLOW IN (RELEASE) & RED OUT (APPLY)
 Allow the psi gauges stable
 Truck off
 Ignition on
 Fan off
 4 way flashes off
 Driver side window down
 I will check any audible air leak in the service line
 Press & hold service brake for 10 seconds
 Say, there is no audible air leak in the service line that means tractor protection
valve system is working.
 YELLOW OUT(APPLY) & RED OUT (APPLY)
 Release service brake
 Reconnect the service line (Blue)
 Schedule 01
 Note down in the Log book - Call the operator -Truck is in / out of service

3.AUDIBLE AIR LEAK NAD AIR LOSS RATE

 Truck start
 Wheels are chocked, Brakes are applied, Vehicle in neutral, Vehicle is safe and
secure.
 Primary secondary air pressure gauges are in normal operating range between 80 -
145 psi. Current air pressure is ……...psi.
 YELLOW IN (RELEASE) & RED IN (RELEASE)
 Allow the psi gauges stable
 Truck off
 Ignition on
 Fan off
 4 way flashes off
 Driver side window down
 I will check any audible air leak
 Press & hold service brake for 10 seconds
 Say, there is no audible air leak, in case if there is any audible air leak, I will check
the air loss rate.
 I will continue to hold the service brake for 1 min.
 Start timer for 1 minute
 After 1 minute, say air loss rate is 3 psi which is good less than 4 psi in 1 minute.
 YELLOW OUT(APPLY) & RED OUT (APPLY)
 Release service brake
 Schedule 01
 Note down in the Log book - Call the operator -Truck is in / out of service

4.SLOW AIR PRESSURE BUILD UP RATE

 Truck start
 Wheels are chocked, Brakes are applied, Vehicle in neutral, Vehicle is safe and
secure.
 Primary secondary air pressure gauges are in normal operating range between 80 -
145 psi. Current air pressure is ……...psi.
 YELLOW OUT (APPLY) & RED OUT (APPLY)
 Keep RPM between 600 to 900
 I am going to reduce air pressure to 80 psi.
 I will start timer from 85 psi to 100 psi.
 Slow air pressure builds up takes ……... seconds from 85 to 100 psi, which is good
less than 2 minutes. If it is takes more than 2 minutes, that is a minor defect.
 Schedule 01
 Note down in the Log book - Call the operator -Truck is in / out of service

5.PUSHRODE STROKE EXCEEDS PRESCRIBED LIMIT

 Truck start
 Steer to left
 Wheels are chocked, Brakes are applied, Vehicle in neutral, Vehicle is safe and
secure.
 Primary secondary air pressure gauges are in normal operating range between 80 -
145 psi. Current air pressure is ……...psi.
 YELLOW IN (RELEASE) & RED IN (RELEASE)
 Allow the psi gauges stable
 Bring air pressure to 100 psi
 Truck off
 Ignition on
 Make sure air pressure between 90 & 100 psi
 I will step down and measure the brake chamber size and mark the pushrod stroke.
 Measure the brake chamber and Say, the brake chamber size is 20 REGULAR,
prescribed limits is 1.75 inches.
 Go back to cab and apply brake applicator by holding the service brake pedal and
adjusting steering tilt down.
 Make sure air pressure between 90 and 100 psi, if it is below 90 psi, start the truck
and wait for gauges reach 100 psi and truck off and ignition on.
 Go down and measure the pushrod travel
 Say, pushrod travel is 1.50 inches which is good less than 1.75 inches the prescribed
limit.
 Go to cab
 YELLOW OUT(APPLY) & RED OUT (APPLY)
 Remove the brake applicator and Release service brake
 Schedule 01
 Note down in the Log book - Call the operator -Truck is in / out of service
