SAY “WHEEL CHOCKS ARE IN PLACE AND THE VEHICLE IS SECURED ON FLAT LEVEL GROUND”
MARK & MEASURE
Start the truck and release both spring brakes (Yellow and Red buttons in) Ask “Which pushrod would you like me to check?” and turn the wheel to the side indicated Turn the truck off Fan brakes down to 100psi, and say “Pressure is between 90 and 100psi” Do 1st measurement (brake chamber to link pin) and say “Measurement is ___ inches.” Say “I will be applying my brakes to take my second measurement” Put your brake buddy in and say “My pressure is still between 90 and 100psi” Get out of vehicle, take your 2nd measurement and say “My second measurement is ___ inches” Say “There’s a difference of ___ inch(es). I’m allowed 13/4 inches because this is a type 24 standard stroke brake chamber. If there was more than 13/4 inches, the truck would be Defective & Out of service” LOW AIR WARNING Get back in truck, and remove the brake buddy Start the truck, and straighten the wheels Build the air pressure to 100psi and say “Pressure is above 90psi” Pump the brakes until the low air warning device comes on and stays on Say “Low air warning came on at ___ psi, if it was below 55psi the truck would be Defective & Out of service” COMPRESSOR BUILD-UP RATE Apply trailer spring brakes (Red button out) Say “I will be timing my air pressure build-up from 85 to 100psi, with the engine running between 600 and 900 RPM” Pump the brakes to lower air pressure to 75psi, grab your stopwatch, and say “Pressure is below 80psi” Start the timer at 85psi & Stop timer at 100psi Say “It took ___ seconds to go from 85 to 100psi. If it took more than 2 minutes the truck would be Defective & Out of service” GOVERNOR CUT-OUT Roll the passenger window down to half Say “We are waiting for the air to exhaust from the air dryer” Once the air exhausts say “It exhausted at ___psi, if it exhausts above 145psi or below 100psi the truck would be Defective & Out of service” GOVERNOR CUT-IN Pump the brakes until the air pressure is at 100psi Say “The needle is stable at 100psi” Then when the needle starts to move say “The needle is moving up” Say “If the governor doesn’t cut-in until below 80psi, the truck would be Defective & Out of service” AIR LOSS RATE Release trailer spring brakes (Red button in) and wait for the air to settle Say “I will be Watching and Listening for any air loss for 1 minute” Shut the truck off Press and hold the brake pedal, wait for the air to settle, and say “Pressure is at ___psi” Start the timer and hold for 1 minute, watch the gauge and listen for any air leaks After 1 minute, stop the timer, and release the foot brake Say “There was no air lost, if more than 4psi was lost, the truck and/or trailer would be Defective & Out of service” APPLY TRAILER SPRING BRAKES Apply trailer spring brakes (Red button out) and listen for the air to exhaust Say “The trailer spring brakes have applied. If they failed to apply the trailer would be Defective & Out of service” TRACTOR PROTECTION VALVE Say “I’m going to remove the blue service line, and do a 10 second brake application” Get out of the truck, remove the blue service line and place it on the deck. Get back in the truck Press and hold the brake pedal, and say “The pressure is ___psi” Count to 10 slowly, while watching the gauge and listening for any air loss After 10 seconds, release the brakes Say “There was no air loss from the blue service line. Had any air been lost, the truck would be Defective & Out of service” APPLY TRACTOR SPRING BRAKES Apply truck spring brakes (Yellow button out) and listen for air to exhaust Say “Tractor spring brakes have applied, had they failed to apply the truck would be Defective & Out of service” TUG TEST Start the truck Get out of the truck, reconnect the blue service line and remove the front wheel chock Release truck spring brakes (Yellow button in Red button out) and say “Testing trailer spring brakes” Place the vehicle in low gear and release the clutch just enough to feel it pull Apply trailer spring brakes (Yellow button out Red button in) and say “Testing truck spring brakes” Place the vehicle in low gear and release the clutch just enough to feel it pull Say “Both brakes held, if either failed to hold the truck and/or trailer would be Defective & Out of service” DRAIN AIR TANKS Shut the truck off, get out and replace the wheel chock Drain wet tank for a few seconds or until no moisture is left and say “There is no moisture, no debris and the valve sealed” Drain secondary tank for a few seconds or until no moisture is left and say “There is no moisture, no debris and the valve sealed” Drain primary tank for a few seconds or until no moisture is left and say “There is no moisture, no debris and the valve sealed” Say “If any valves failed to close the truck would be Defective & Out of service” Give Minor and Major speech
