Who has the biggest brain on earth

on land

There is a creature that has a trunk that is larger than an elephant's brain. It weighs 5
kilograms and is packed with many neurons. A neuron is the cell that transmits electrical
signals in the brain and is the basic unit of the nervous system.

For comparison, the human brain contains 20 billion neurons. Because humans are the most
intelligent living beings, they have many more of these cells than other animals. Compare
this number to the number of neurons in a dog, for example, which is only 160 million. The
cat has twice as many, with 300 million neurons in its brain.

As we go up the scale, we nd familiar animals like the rhesus monkey, which has a brain
containing half a billion neurons. And at the top of the list are dolphins and whales, of course.
We wouldn't be surprised to see a chimpanzee with 6 billion neurons, but this is not the
highest number in animals. The creature with the highest number after humans is the
elephant, which has 11 billion neurons!

Not only that, but the structure of the elephant's brain is similar to the shape of the human
brain. Elephants are very intelligent, with many examples that cannot be counted. For
example, if an elephant is pregnant, it will chew on leaves of the stitchwort or horehound tree
to facilitate childbirth. This practice is also done by humans in Kenya, as the tree has a
medicinal effect.

The sperm whale has the biggest brain of any animal species, weighing up to

20 pounds (7 to 9 kilograms).

Larger brains don't necessarily make a smarter mammal. But as mammals

evolved, many groups, from Primates to Carnivora, have shown independent
increases in brain size. The fact that unusually big brains show up again and
again in mammalian evolution suggests that bigger brains must provide some

major benefit.

The nocturnal tarsier is only 3.5 inches tall, but it has the largest eyes relative
to body size of any mammal. The eyes have the same volume as the animal's

entire brain, in order to capture light on dark nights.
