Getting Involved!

After attending the student involvement fair, I am so much more knowledgeable

about what clubs and groups I can join. The opportunities seem unlimited because of the

many different and diverse clubs. Some clubs I will discuss today are Alpha Kappa Alpha

Sorority, Latinx Student Association, and Cardinal Video. These were the ones that stood

out the most to me as I was walking through the fair. Before I started, every club was so

exciting to learn more about and I am so glad I got this chance to see all my options so

that I can meet more people with the same interests as me.

The one that stood out most to me was the Cardinal Video Club. This club sounds

like so much fun to me because it sort of aligns with my interests. I have always had a
passion for being on the internet whether that means a radio spokesperson, influencer, or

sponsorships. This club lets you practice that side of you! They even told me that they

can broadcast small artists, which they’ve had multiple members do. One member loved

making music, so she used that talent and integrated it into her radio work. This may

seem super interesting to me because as a little girl, my Mom and I bonded the most

when we drove together listening to drama stories and music over the radio.

Another interesting club was the AKA sorority, which really took me back to my

freshman year. I loved getting involved at ISU with other girls that had the same morals

as me. I want to get to experience that again at North Central. I spoke to one of the

members and she gave me a lot of insight. A great fact she brought up was that they do

volunteer work. I love the idea of volunteer work because not only are you working with

girls who go to the same college as you, but you are also helping others within your

community.

The last club I visited was the Latinx Student Association. The members that I

spoke to were also in my last year’s class! It was so cool to hear that you don’t even have

to speak Spanish to be in the club. The job is to simply learn more about the culture and

to meet others with different cultures. This is a great club if someone is interested in the

Spanish culture.

A lot of these clubs may interest me, however, that doesn’t mean I will end up

joining them. The reason I most likely won’t join any is due to the lack of time on my
hands. The amount of schoolwork I have on top of my job schedule restricts me from

making more time for a club. If I didn’t have any of these barriers, it would be a whole

lot easier to participate. I wish there was a simpler way to meet people, such as Greek life

here. There are sororities here, but not Greek life. North Central Sororities have

requirements that are very specific to what you are studying in college, but I don’t have a

specific enough major.
