New Sunday School Class

You may have noticed over the past several weeks that our classrooms dont have as many empty chairs in them. We are running an average of 26 people for Sunday school. This means we need to make more room so our department can continue growing. For those of you who joined the Josh Hunt video series this summer, you may recall that Josh Hunt suggests we grow our group by doubling the number of groups, not by growing the size of each group. We, the Leadership Team, believe now is the time to start another Sunday school class. Charles Scrivener has a huge heart for reaching the lost and has expressed a desire to be used by God in any way possible. He has agreed to be the teacher for this new class. We are aiming to start the new class by December 1st. More details, such as content and definite start date will be announced in Department Opening in Sundays to come.

The Leadership Team

1Timothy 4:12~ Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe.

A Word from Charles Scrivener

As a young child, my parents and doctors discovered my visual impairment. Tests proved that it was caused by an active brain tumor. I remember undergoing radiation and chemo therapy without any improvements. Doctors could not operate at that time and predicted my imminent perishing. I remember the love and prayerful support of fellow church members at First Baptist Church of Melbourne, Florida as God worked in miraculous ways to preserve my life. I placed my faith in Him as my Lord and Savior at a young age, and as I sensed His presence in my life, especially during this crisis, I sensed that He had a plan for my life to share His love with other people. I started sharing my personal faith with classmates, neighbors and had a passion for lost people who did not know the hope that is found in Jesus. As a youth, I explored becoming a doctor, but I felt that God planned for me to go into full-time Christian ministry, like my father. I went to a Christian university and seminary before I moved to Wichita as a chaplain resident at Wesley Medical Center in 2005. As I have worked at different secular jobs, I have looked for churches and other areas where I can use my spiritual gifts and share the difference that God made in my own life. When I was looking for a church home within walking distance from my apartment, someone suggested Metropolitan Baptist Church. I felt interested in the young adults ministry when I learned about a missions trip to Mexico. I had been on several mission trips before but none within the last two years; so I prayed, talked to my new friends and decided to go for a week of service. During our week of providing support and service to these children, I got to know several members hearts for missions. Since I knew this was an outreach and missions oriented church, I decided to join and become active in its outreach. Thankfully, I have had the opportunity to substitute teach for a Sunday School class and be a part of discussions to start a new class of young adults. I have also had the opportunity to lead at the Rescue Mission along with the praise team. I am glad I found A-6 at Metropolitan Baptist Church where I can serve and mature with other passionate adults.

Novembers Service Project Details

We will be putting together a care package for Josh & Amanda Barbe on Saturday, November 12th. We will meet in Vardaman Hall, pack the items to be shipped and then make Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough to be donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charity here in Wichita. Once the care package(s) are packed, the cookie dough has been made and packed, we will have a time of fellowship with board/card games and snacks. There is a sign-up sheet of items for Josh & Amanda in the Dept Opening Room. Bring a snack to share and a board/card game to play. This is one way we can show one of our own that we are thinking about them and praying for them, but also a way to reach out to the city of Wichita with the love of Christ.

a map, you can get there on your own. Please let someone on the Leadership Team know if you are planning on going & what transportation needs you have. We have a sign-up sheet in the SS Dept opening room.
