Arts and Crafts in the Korean Style
Everyone: Good Afternoon Teacher!, Good Afternoon Classmate! Today we will
report the Arts and Crafts in the Korean Style.
Gulia: Korean art, the painting, calligraphy, or decorative visual arts produced by
the peoples of Korea over the centuries.
Rica: The art produced by peoples living in the peninsula of Korea has traditionally
shared aesthetic concepts, motifs, techniques, and forms with the art of China and
Japan.
Vidal: Yet it has developed a distinctive style of its own.
Rica: The beauty of Korean art and the strength of its artists lay in simplicity,
spontaneity, and a feeling of harmony with nature.
Gulia: The basic trend of Korean art through the ages has been naturalistic, a
characteristic already evident as early as the Three Kingdoms Period (c. 57 BCE---668
CE) but fully established by Unified, or Great, Silla(Korean: Shinla) period (668---
935).
Lloyd: Traditional Korean arts are unique cultural treasures that have been
bequeathed from master artisan to master artisan since antiquity.
Torio: Korean folk painting, calligraphy, Korean mulberry paper and paper clay
dolls are just a few exquisite examples of traditional Korean arts and crafts.
Rica: Calligraphy – the art of writing. A cherished Korean art form that conveys the
artists’ emotions while illustrating the strength, purity and perpetuity of this ancient
tradition.
Gulia: Korean ceramics became highly revered in Japan, considered the most famous
Korean art of the Japanese.
Vidal: Maedeup, the traditional Korean art form of knotting silken cords, consists of over
35 intricate knots---with colorful names such as “Dragonfly” and “Plum Blossom”---
skillfully made into beautiful ornaments and accessories.
Torio: A traditional garden in Korea includes multiple elements integrated in a pleasing
way such as trees and shrubs, flowers, water features, rocks, bridges, walls, paths, and
even seating areas.
Lloyd: This floral arrangements embodies the artistic use of the lines and spaces.
