Journey to Karbala
After receiving letters from the inhabitants of
Kufa, Imam Hussain sent his cousin Muslim Ibn
Aqeel to confirm these calls for help. Once
confirmed, Imam Hussains sets his Journey to
Kufa and on his way, his tents and caravans
get intercepted by Yazid's army.
A new leader put in Kufa threatens anyone
who pledges allegiance to Imam Hussain.
Ultimately leading to Imam Hussain's army
dwindling from thousands of soldiers to a
mere 72 true believers.
7th of Muharram
On the 7th of Muharram, through the orders
of Commander Hurr Ibn Ziyad, the camp
water supply was cut off and the camp
suffered 3 days of thirst and hunger before
the fateful day of Ashura.
Patience through the Journey
Sayeda's Zainab patience is seen here as she
goes through the endurance of grief, putting
other needs before her own. She also upheld
her prayer and supplication through all of this
as well as taking care of the children.
Lady Zainab was the eldest daughter of Ali ibn
Abi Talib and Lady Fatimah, therefore being the
Zainab
granddaughter of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Her birthdate is not known exactly but is believed
to be around 5 AH (After Hijrah) in Medina, and
is widely celebrated by Shia Muslims on the 5th
of Jumadi-Al-Awwal. She was also Nicknamed By Khalil Farhat
Umm-al-Kulthum
She passed away in the year 682 CE and is

known to be buried in Damascus, Syria

When Sayeda Zainab was born, it has been said
that Archangel Gabriel warned the Prophet of her
difficult life. She is said to have foreseen her
trials in a dream in which she was caught up in a
tree in the midst of a storm. Twigs and branches
started to fall off, and the Prophet said these
represented her family members.

ZAINAB'S BEAUTY
AMID TRAGEDY
While disguised between the women, Ibn Ziyad
recognised Sayeda Zainab and boasted 'victory' by
arrogantly asking, “How did you find the way Allah
treated your brother". To which she replied proudly "I
saw Nothing but Beauty".
Ibn Ziyad looked in horror at such a reply, even after
being humiliated, gazed upon and treated harshly,
she still understood that this was by Allah's wish and
the real victory would be handed in the hereafter.

MORAL ACHIEVEMENT
After arriving in Yazids court, Imam Hussain's head
was beaten mercilessly by the accursed Ibn Ziyad,
in front of the captives. Sayeda Zainab kept quiet
and waited patiently until she was given a chance
to speak. Her famous speech was recorded to
have challenged Yazid's leadership and
condemned him for his actions. This speech
travelled across Arabia and the tragedy of Karbala
was spread keeping alive the message.

On the tenth of Ashura, Imam Hussain was
cowardly killed by the tens of thousands of
soldiers. after his death, the tents of
Hussain (AS) were ravaged with the
remaining children and women being taken
captive.
This was especially hard for Sayeda
Zainab enduring such a great loss, but
kept composed and accepted Allah's
command by maintaining her patience.
The captives including Sayeda Zainab
faced harsh treatment at the command of
Ibn Ziyad and were publicly shamed on the
way to the court of Yazid in Damascus.
Through all these hardships and
tribulations, Sayeda Zainab trusted in the
command of Allah and kept composed
facing this advertises through resilience,
patience and inner-strength.
