The Body

This is the story of a particular group of young teenagers from Castle Rock in the sixtys who
one day had an adventure looking for a dead man`s body. The group is formed by:

Gordon Lachance: Gordon is in the present a writer, this is the one who told us the story. In
the times of the story, Gordon was a shy kid who liked imagine stories. He was the unwaitly
second son of the family, he came by surprise cause his parents thougt They weren`t able to
have a second child. He wasn`t important to his parents They only took attention to Denny, his
big brother. He seemed to be invisible for them. Denny`s death was terrible to Gordie`s
fathers.

Chris Chambers: Chris was gordie best friend and The band`s leader. Chris was from a bad
family, his oldest brother was in prison and the other, called the Eyeball Chambers, was in the
hard guys group of the town. His father wa always drunk and used to beat Chris.

Teddy Duchamp: Teddy was strange and crazy. His eyesight was bad and he didn`t hear very
well. The problem with his ears wasn’t something natural as the one of his eyesight. When
Teddy was eight years old, Teddy`s father took his head and put it down against the hot plates
of the kitchen. He did it on the two sides of his head. Then of that, Teddy`s father was sent to a
special hospital for who were mad from the war. That`s the reason because Teddy was the
only one who had long hair in Castle Rock, yo hide his burned ears.

Vern Tessio: Vern was a normal boy, scary, not very smart and a little fat. He had and old
brother called Billy who was part of the hard guys gang.

The treehouse-gang had some other members but They didn`t took ijn parth of this story.

It all beggins a normal day in the treehouse where they used to get together to play cards and
smoke. There were Chris, Teddy and Gordie. Vern arrived so exhausted with news. He knew
where the boddy was. They all knew about Ray Brower story, they heard it on the radio. Ray
was child of their same age who had dissapeared three days ago. He went to pick up fruit and
he didn`t return. Teddy had heard about it when He was Looking for a jar of pennies he had
buried down his own house. His big brother Billy was talking to his friend Charlie about the
body they had found at Black Harlow Road. They couldn`t report it because they went there in
a stolen car. Once the guys heard that, they made plans to go and see it. They will report it too
and be the heroes who found the body. They all will say they were going to camp at Vern`s and
Vern at Chris`s. The will met after lunch. It was easy to Gordie get allowed to, his father didn`t
pay any attention to him. Gordie met Chris near the clubhouse. Chris show Gordon a gun, he
had picked it up from his drunk father. He had nine bullets but any in the gun, or that said
Chris. Gordon took the gun and pointed to a tin and suddenly there was a big Bang. He had
shot the gun unintentionally. Then they found the other two at te club. There they began his
trip, they`ll have to walk at least twenty or thirty miles. They began to walk and reached the
tracks. There they realized that they had no food. They had two and a half dollars to buy
money. Suddenly they saw the train, they all moved out of its journey but Teddy stayed there.
He wanted to stay there at the last moment but Gordon moved him from the tracks and there
began a fight. Finally, the other two separated them and give the reason to Gordie. Later, they
reached the dump and get into jumping up its wire fence. There worked a man called Milo
Pressman who had the most feared dog of all Castle Rock, Chopper. The rumours said that
Chopper was trained to attack specific parts of the body. They stayed there undear the shadow
of a tree. They spin Coins to define who will go to buy the food. First time they all get tails and
Vern said it was bad luck. The second time Gordon got face so He went to the shop. He got
back to the dump. He was worried because there was Milo Pressman`s car. Suddenly, Gordie
heard a shout. It was Milo and his dog, Chopper, began to follow him. Gordon jumped the
fence quickly. Chopper, in reality, wasn`t something special. Milo got very angry when the guys
started laughing about his dog. He told that he knew them and talked about the madness of
Teddy`s father. Teddy got realy angry and tried to jump the fence but the other kids
prevented it. The boys left the place while Milo was still shouting at them. A moments later,
while they were walking on the tracks, Teddy began to cry very hard. By talkink Chris managed
to calm Teddy. Teddy was sorry about ruining the good tim but Vern pondered that they were
going to see a dead body. It hadn`t to be a party. They contuined walking until they found the
Castler River, there the tracks continued in a bridge across it. The bridge was large but they
finally decided to get across it because taking other way was going to be very long. Teddy and
Chris, who`s went first, had already reached the end when gordon touched the track. It was
shaking hard and gordon and Vern were in the halfway. They started to run. They managed to
jump at the last moment and they landed on the rocks and dirth. Then of that, the boys ate
some cooks and continued walking. The night was coming towards, Vern and Teddy were
talking each other unimportant things but Chris and Gordon began talkin about his future at
school. They were going to separate, Gordie would be sent with the intelligent ones but the
other members of the guys wouldn`t. Gordie didn`t like that but Chris made him understand
that It was the better for him and his future. Gordie was intelligent and creative. He had his
stories and, if nobody helped him, he would loose them. Chris knew his parents wouldn`t help
him, so He`d be the one who will do it. Then Chris began talking about the milk money. He had
taken that money, but nobody had asked him. He was one of the no-good Chambers. He was
sorry and gave it back. He gave the money to Mrs Simons, but the money never appeared and
Chris wasn`t allowed to go school about two weeks. Mrs Simon had spent that money in a new
skirt but, of course, nobody would believe that story from Chris Chambers. Chris was almost
crying, then he said that he would try to be at the college courses because he wanted to get
out of Castle Rock. He wanted to go far away from his family, where noone had bad ideas from
him.

The boys continued walking and, when it was dark, they acamped. They ate theirs meal and
smoke a cigarette. Gordon told one of his stories, but he couldn`t stop thinking aboout Ray
Brower. They began to sleep and Gordon had a nightmare, where the others where afraid
about something in the middle of the forest. A big scream wake up the guys, It sounded like a
woman scream. Teddy said it was a ghost and he wanted to go and see it, but another scream
made him regret about it. They began to make guards after that. Gordie had another
nightmare, this time he and Chris were swimming in a beach. Teddy and Vern dragged Chris
down, Gordie tried to save him but he couldn`t and began to be drag down too. It was Gordie`s
guard when he found a deer. Gordie stayed there still, They looked each other for a while and
then the deer began to eat. It didn`t care about Gordie`s presence. It disspaeared in the forest
when the train came. The guys were woken up by the train. He didn`t tell nobody about the
deer. Gordon comented that when he was in a bad time, his mind went back to that moment.
Later, the boys saw a natural pool and thought it was a good idea to get into it. But that wasn`t
really a good idea, the water was full of leeches. The guys became desperate and took al the
lleches off them quickly. At the same the time guys continued his way, the bad-boys band from
Castle Rock were going to see the body too. It was going to rain when the boys finally reached
the Royal. The rain was getting closer when Vern saw the body. They all went to see it and
began to rain hard. Ace Merril, the leader of hard-guys band, came there exactly at this
moment with the others members. Eyeball Chambers and Billy Tessio, Chris and Vern`s
brothers, were two of them. There was almost a fight, but the bad guys were bigger and more.
Ace mentioned Denny, Gordie`s big brother, and that made him get very angry. Chris used his
father`s weapon to shoot up in the air. Chris threatened Ace with the gun and the hard-guys
band show its white flag and went out off there. After that, Chris felt down and began to cry,
that was the first time Teddy and Vern saw him crying. They came back to Castle Rock by the
same way, but this time they didn`t talk. The guys went to their houses. There Gordon met
with his mother, who was more worried about thinking in the dead son than in the live one.
Finally, Ace Merril phoned the police and he told them about the body without leaving his
name. So nobody became a hero. A month later, the bad-guys gang took his revenge and hurt
all the boys of the treehouse-band. As the time continued, Chris and Gordie began to loose
their friendship with Teddy and Vern. They were now just two strange faces at school. Vern
Tessio died in an accident in a party. Teddy Duchamp tried to get into the army, but he
couldn`t because of his eyes and his ears. He died in an car accident, he was drinking with
some friends and they crashed with a tree. Chris, against what everyone thought, joined the
college courses and graduated, with Gordie`s help. He studied law at university. Chris died
trying to separate a fight in a bar. Gordon was the only one who is still alive. He is now a writer
and He wrote this story.
