In his honor, the San Fermín festivities are held, which

are the most popular in the capital of Navarra, and
manage to bring together thousands of people who
come from different parts of the country and the world
to enjoy the Sanfermines.
In this note we will tell you everything you need to
know about this popular festivity that takes place in
Spain.
How did the San Fermín festival originate?
The celebration dates back to the year 1186, when the
Bishop of Pamplona, Pedro de París, collected the
relics of San Fermín in Amiens and arranged for his
festival to be on October 10 and to have the same rank
as that of the apostles.
However, in the year 1591, it was decided to change the
date to July 7 for a commercial fair, where dances,
music, and comedy were performed, among other
activities.
What is the chupinazo?
One of the most important activities during the San
Fermín festival is the Chupinazo, which is the most
important symbolic act of the Sanfermines and marks
the starting point for the more than 200 hours of
festivities that takes place every July 6. , At 12p.m.

At 12 noon, a rocket is launched that explodes in the

Pamplona sky, while people shout “Long live San
Fermín, Gora San Fermín!”, and gather in the
Pamplona City Hall, celebrate and tie the red scarf
around the neck, which they will not remove until the
last day, when they will then sing the ‘Poor me’. After
that, another 27 rockets are fired. One for each
councilor of the City Council. These shots were fired by
municipal representatives, until after 1980 they were
fired by councilors from all political groups.
