STUDENT ENROLMENT WITH SACNASP: GUIDELINES AND

REQUIREMENTS FOR ENROLMENT

1. INTRODUCTION
SACNASP is the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions and was
established as a result of an Act of Parliament (Natural Scientific Professions Act, No 27 of
2003). In terms of this Act, SACNASP governs the practice of Natural Science in South
Africa. SACNASP’s mandate is to create an enabling environment for professional
development in natural science and endeavours to grow the maturity of the discipline by
contributing to their body of knowledge, their relevance, governing principles and
accessibility to new and existing practitioners.

2. ENROLMENT OF STUDENTS IN NATURAL SCIENCE


SACNASP is offering free student enrolment to enable those who are still studying towards a
qualification in their field, to join and receive specific benefits such as training, development
and networking opportunities. Our website and social media are a valuable source of
information should you wish to do research related to specific occupations. We also list
practitioners or organisations in the field, which allows you to identify individuals who you
could contact for further conversations about your career.

3. REQUIREMENTS FOR ENROLMENT


3.1 The following requirements need to be met in order to enrol:
• The student must be in their final year of their first degree at a South African tertiary
institution and be in full time education.
• Students studying for their Honours, Masters or PhD also qualify but must be in full
time education.
• Students must be studying natural science in one of SACNASP’s fields of practice –

4. PROCEDURE FOR ENROLMENT

Once you are enrolled you will receive information from SACNASP in the form of
newsletters, webinars and have access to relevant general training.

4. CONCLUSION
It is important to note that you are enrolled as a student but not registered as a registered
scientist. You will only be registered once you meet the requirements of the SACNASP
Council for registration.

5. AUTHORISATION
The Guidelines for Student Enrolment with SACNASP were approved and signed by the
Executive Director of SACNASP.
