Important Items
* 80% of machine failures are due to lack of or improper cleaning.

Ensure a thorough cleaning of the machine is carried out every evening.

Ensure a cleaning tablet is used during each cleaning cycle.

When you notice that only a few cleaning tablets remain, call ESI to order more.

* The upper piston o-ring is a wear item and is not covered under
the manufacturer’s warranty.

If you suspect the o-ring has failed or is worn to the point that it is causing a water leak
during operation, STOP using the machine immediately.

Continued use of the machine with a failed upper o-ring may cause additional damage
to other machine components.

Any additional damage caused will not be covered under warranty.

* Use the steam wand with care.

Damage to the auto-steam probe can occur if the probe is repeatedly bumped with the
bottom of the steaming pitcher. Use care when inserting the steam wand into the
pitcher of milk.

Always use a moist bar towel to wipe off the exterior of the steam wand after each and
use.

Also blow steam through the wand after wiping down to remove any residual milk
that may be in the wand.

Do not move the wand from side to side. If you notice the wand is loose or moves from
side to side freely, please call ESI for technical assistance.

* Soak the upper piston frequently.

In order to ensure proper operation of the machine, the upper piston needs to be re-
moved from the machine often (approximately once a week, depending on usage) and
soaked in hot water which has a cleaning tablet dissolved in it. Once the piston has
soaked for 10-15 minutes, remove the piston from the water and inspect the o-ring.
Remove and replace the o-ring if it appears worn or abraded. Clean the o-ring channel
well before replacement. Lubricate the o-ring and replace the piston in the machine.

Properly performing this cleaning procedure will decrease the possibility of machine
errors and increase the lifespan of the motor.

Maintenance Tips
Cleaning Symptom: You must open the door within 7 seconds of press-
ing “clean” button, or the machine will return to operation mode
without cleaning. Suggestion: Rinse the piston nightly with hot
water, and remove the o-ring and clean channel behind it. You
can’t over-clean the machine. A complete cleaning is neces-
sary a minimum of once nightly.

No Beans Symptom: This message may still appear after filling hoppers
with beans. Solution: You must push one of the shot buttons
to test a shot before the machine registers the beans and then
the message will go away. Also, make sure that the beans are
flowing down into the grinder area.
O-ring replacement Symptom: There is noticeable water in the grounds drawer.
Solution: These are your signals it is time to change out the o-
ring on the piston. Follow directions found inside brew cham-
ber door. Expect to change out o-rings monthly at a minimum.

Flowmeter error Symptom: Diminished or lack of flow from the coffee outlet.
The message “Flowmeter” may also appear on the display. No
coffee will be produced. Solution: You must clean the upper
piston screen and/or coarsen the grind. The best way to clean
the screen is to remove the upper piston from the machine
and soak it in hot water with a cleaning tablet. This will dissolve
the coffee oils and grounds that are impeding the flow of water
through the piston. You might also have to coarsen the grind to
allow water to flow faster through the grounds.

Loud Grinder Symptom: Grinder is unusually loud. Solution: Check to make

sure there is not a foreign object in the grinder and that the
distance bolt/screw to hold down the hoppers is not missing.

Doors open Symptom: Empty drawer message won’t go away. Solution:

Open and close the door until the machine registers the
drawer has been emptied. It may be necessary to turn the
machine off and then on again to get machine to register. Call
for service should this happen repeatedly 3+ times.

Autosteam Wand Symptom: Your thermometer may not register milk steaming
Care and Cleaning to 160 degrees, but the auto steam wand shuts off. Solution:
Carefully remove the outer sleeve of the steam wand and soak
as needed to loosen build up inside sleeve. Carefully use the
brush to clean debris from the temperature sensing probe as
well as clean inside of sleeve. This can be done during slower
shifts.
