A case is a simulation or description of a real situation that requires analyzing and

solving a business-related problem. The Case Method is the most common

interactive methodology used at IESE. We believe that it is through real hands-on
discussions with others that the best plans of action are developed.

The diversity of the class is key in creating a rich environment for discussion. The
different sectors, backgrounds, geographic and cultural contexts, etc. ensure that
each idea is challenged, and new holistic resolutions are achieved.

The objective does not lie so much in finding a single solution to a case, but rather
in exploring and evaluating a variety of viewpoints.

What to expect from the case method?

1. Individual Preparation: When preparing the case, you will need to perform
analysis of facts, number, and persons involved in the description of the case.
You need to work towards being able to detect: the problem, causes of the
problem, posible alternatives, evaluation of the alternatives, a possible
solution and an action plan.

2. Team Work: Each candidate is assigned to a team in which individuals’

analyses, argumentation, and solutions receive a first round of feedback.Team
members get the chance to observe other management and decision making
approaches with which they enrich their own experience. In this way, team
work sessions are trial runs for the general discussion in the classroom.
** In this session team discussion won´t happen as we run short on time.

3. Academic Session: The professor leads the discussion and asks students to
share their conclusions.
