7. Return the scroller release lever. The scroller returns to its original position.
8. Pull the cushioning roller down.
NOTE
If the cushioning roller is not pull down, the winding unit does not operate.

・ The media loading ends.
・ When printing is started, the scroller winds the media roll automatically.

・ The scroller raises from the drive unit.

1 Before Using

1.1Purpose and target readers

This manual explains assembling and operation procedures for the winding unit for MUTOH Full Color Ink
Jet Printer VJ-1604 and VJ-1204.
This manual is intended for the assembler and operators of this winding unit.
Before assembling and operating this winding unit, fully understand the contents and directions in this
manual.

After unpacking, confirm that the product has not damaged and no components are missing.

4.3 Loading the roll media

This section describes how to load the roll media.
Follow the procedure below to load the roll media to the winding unit.
1. Turn ON the winding unit.
2. Check that the shifting switch is OFF.

3. Adjust the scroller position using a horizontal adjustment screw to load the roll media to the center of
the scroller.
4. Pull out the roll media from the feed slot, and pass the roll media to the cushioning roller. Then fix into
place with tape so that the leading edge is parallel with the media tube.

4.2 Turning the Power ON and OFF

This section describes how to turn the power ON and OFF.

4.2.1 Turning the power ON

Follow the procedure below to turn the power ON.
1. Shift the power switch to ON ( ).
・ The winding unit is turning ON.
・ The operation lamp lights.

3 Assembly
This section explains how to assemble the winding unit.

Two or more people are required to assemble this winding unit.

Follow the procedure below to assemble the winding unit.
1. Follow the procedure below to install the stand to the winding unit.
a) Place the winding unit on the stand.
b) Adjust a fastening material to the mounting position of the winding unit.
c) Fasten the winding unit using four hexagon socket head cap screws (M4 x 8).

2. Follow the procedure below to install the stand to the scroller receiver.
a) Place the scroller receiver on the stand.
b) Adjust a fastening material to the mounting position of the scroller receiver.
c) Fasten the scroller receiver using four hexagon socket head cap screws (M4 x 8).

b) Adjust a cushioning roller to the mounting position of the winding unit.

c) Install the cushioning roller to the winding unit using two hexagon socket head cap screws (M4 x
10).

・ If the scroller is not level, loosen the scroller height fixing screw. Then adjust the height of the

3.3 Power cable connection

This section explains the power cable connection procedure.
NOTE
For the instructions of power cable connection, refer to the following section.
"4.2.5 Power cable connection" in the Operation Manual
If the power cable is damaged, contact MUTOH local dealer.

Follow the procedure below to connect the power cable.

1. Be sure to turn OFF the power of the winding unit.

3.2 Procedure for assembling （for VJ-1604）

Follow the procedure below to assemble the winding unit.
1. Follow the procedure below to install the stand to the winding unit.
a) Loosen the four hexagon socket head cap screws that fasten in the winding unit bracket.
b) Remove the winding unit bracket from the winding unit

c) Fasten the winding unit to the stand using four hexagon socket head cap screws (M4 x 8).

d) Place the winding unit on the winding unit bracket.

e) Tighten the four hexagon socket head cap screws that were loosened in step a).

a) Adjust a scroller receiver to the mounting position of the left of the stand.
b) Fasten the scroller receiver using four hexagon socket head cap screws (M4 x 8).

c) Install the cushioning roller to the winding unit using two hexagon socket head cap screws (M4 x
10).
