Baroque Era (1600 to 1750)

The term Baroque probably ultimately derived from the Italian word barocco, which
philosophers used during the Middle Ages to describe an obstacle in schematic logic.

The Baroque or Baroquism is a style of architecture, music, dance, painting, sculpture,


poetry, and other arts that flourished in Europe from the early 17th century until the
1750s.
In art criticism the word Baroque came to be used to describe anything irregular, bizarre,
or otherwise departing from established rules and proportions.

The Portuguese word barroco , used to describe an irregular or imperfectly shape pearl, and
this usage still survives in the jeweler’s term baroque pearl.
WHEN DID THE BAROQUE ERA START?
Baroque period, (17th–18th century) Era in the arts that
originated in Italy in the 17th century and flourished elsewhere
well into the 18th century. It embraced painting, sculpture,
architecture, decorative arts, and music.

How did the Baroque era start?


The Baroque started as a response of the Catholic Church
to the many criticisms that arose during the Protestant
Reformation in the 16th-century.
When did the Baroque era end?
The year 1750 is considered the end of the Baroque due to
the death of Johann Sebastian Bach. His music is considered
to be the culmination of the Baroque style.

Johann Sebastian Bach was a German composer and


musician of the late Baroque period. He is known for his
orchestral music such as the Brandenburg Concertos.
