ART
WHAT IS BAROQUE ART?

The Baroque is a highly ornate and often

extravagant style of architecture, music, dance,
painting, sculpture and other arts that flourished in
Europe from the early 17th until the mid-18th
century. It followed Renaissance art and Mannerism
and preceded the Rococo and Neoclassical styles.

BAROQUE SCULPTURE
it is the sculpture associated with the Baroque style of
the period between the early 17th and mid 18th
centuries. In Baroque sculpture, groups of figures
assumed new importance, and there was a dynamic
movement and energy of human forms—they spiralled
around an empty central vortex, or reached outwards
into the surrounding space. Baroque sculpture often
had multiple ideal viewing angles, and reflected a
general continuation of the Renaissance move away
from the relief to sculpture created in the round, and
designed to be placed in the middle of a large space.

Three Major Architectural Styles
1. Rococo Architecture
Rococo style developed first in the decorative
arts and interior design, and its influence later
spread to architecture, sculpture, theater
design, painting, and music. Rococo style is
characterized by elaborate ornamentation,
asymmetrical values, pastel color palette, and
curved or serpentine lines.
2. Palladian Revival
Palladian architecture is a European style of
architecture derived from and inspired by the
designs of the Venetian architect Andrea
Palladio.
3. Neoclassical Architecture/ Federal Stytle

Neoclassical architecture is an architectural

style produced by the neoclassical movement
that began in the mid-18th century. In its
purest form, it is a style principally derived
from the architecture of classical antiquity, the
Vitruvian principles, and the work of the
Italian architect Andrea Palladio.
