Mount Zion Track 3

Hebrews 12:22-24

The book of Hebrews was written majorly to tell us about what Christ has done to sin. In Hebrews 1:3,
the writer tells us that the old testament prophets had been prophesying concerning what Christ would
accomplish on the earth, which is to purge us of our sins, and this happened when He rose from the
dead.

The word purge means to thoroughly cleanse something. And the writer does not leave us into the dark
on how Jesus cleanses us from sin. In Hebrews 2:9, he says Jesus tasted death for everyone!

The word taste means to experience something. That is, he experienced death to deliver us from death
as we saw yesterday.

Before the death and resurrection of Jesus, we were slaves to sin (Romans 6:23). And because the
wages of sin is death, we were already dead in and for our sin, without the death of Christ we were
already condemned. But, Jesus chose to die as a penalty of our sins, hence he tasted death so we can
have eternal life.

Paul in 2 Corinthians 5:21 shows us that Jesus was not deserving of death because he was not a sinner.
However, whoever must free men from sin must be blameless. So, Jesus though undeserving of death
became that offering for our sin and died for us, that we may not die but have everlasting life just like
him when he rose from the dead.

Hence, Jesus is called the captain of our salvation, because he paid the price for our sin.

In Hebrews 2:10, Jesus was referred to as the first born of God. Who through his death brought many
sons unto glory. Jesus as the first born of God means He is a pattern and example that others will follow.

So, in Hebrews 2:11 the writer says every man who has been saved is part of the family of God, we are
now Jesus' brethren. Because Jesus is the first born, I can look at him and have a picture of how my
experiences should be. Jesus became an example that we all must follow.

As we study the epistles, you cannot miss the fact. In 1 Corinthians 15:20, Paul says if Jesus rose from
the dead, it is a pattern and an example that all those who slept in Christ will rise again on the last day. If
Jesus who died rose again, so therefore everyone who dies will rise again on the resurrection morning.

This is why the epistles shows us that it is impossible for anyone who is in Christ to miss the rapture. If
the son was indeed raised from the dead, then we can be assured of our resurrection on the last day. In
1 John 3:1-2, John says we know that when we shall see him, we shall be like him. We will have the same
immortality, the same experience; just like Jesus.
We must therefore not be double-minded. John says again John 3:16, all that has believed in Jesus will
not perish but have eternal life. If Jesus was sent to die for us and he has given us eternal life, we must
be able to trust him.

So if he says I am the house of God, then that's what I am. When I believed the gospel, God made me His
house. Our confidence is not in our works, but in the death and resurrection of Jesus. Glory to God!

Confession

I have come to mount Zion and I have come to the saviour. I have come to the one who has washed my
sins away. I have been made God's own house. I have victory over death.
