Per EK Law:
The Kingdom Webminister:
* Is responsible for maintaining a recognized website
for the Kingdom in accordance with the policies of
the Society Webminister and Kingdom Webminister.
* Supervises all recognized websites within the
Kingdom, including those which may be maintained
by other Kingdom Officers.
* Is responsible for maintaining appropriate
information technology infrastructure to meet the
needs of the East Kingdom and its Branches.
* Assists any Kingdom Officers who may wish to do
so in adding material relating to their office to the
East Kingdom website or creating their own website,
which may be accessed via the East Kingdom
website.
* Coordinates with the Kingdom Seneschal and
Kingdom Chronicler to ensure that an up-to-date
copy of East Kingdom Law is available via the East
Kingdom website.
In addition, the ideal candidate for the position will
have excellent people skills, delegation skills, and
be available to communicate and coordinate with
an excellent and passionate team. This is not a job
where you need to be a micromanager, but rather be
an ideas person and have an idea how to get the right
people for the job and trust those people.
You will get the opportunity to work with other
Kingdom officers through the Known World and
shape communications policies on an ongoing basis.

From the EK Chancellor Minor
Greetings unto the populace of the East!
Some housekeeping regarding background checks!
The Corporate Background Check process has been
significantly updated to streamline the receipt of
results. Once the submission form is filled out and
sent to our office, the Youth Clerks will work within
the system to generate a secure link sent directly
to your email address. You will then have three
(3) weeks to complete the form sent to you. Once
completed, the background check begins and you
should have a result within a few days (instead of a
few weeks or months). To ensure this process goes
smoothly, please send an email to me in addition to
the web submission form with an introduction and
note of intent to work with the Youth. This allows
us to ensure that the interest is genuine and gives us
an opportunity to provide you with any additional
resources and assistance that you may need when
getting started as a youth officer.
As for the rest of the work, much planning
and writing has been going into improving the
Chancellor Minor website to be a comprehensive
resource for parents and families of the East. Our
goals are not only to provide a library of activities

for use at events but also guidance for parents of the
East.
The quickest and already available enhancement is a
submission form on the Chancellor Minor website for
all those who facilitate youth activities to submit and
share their lesson plans. This project will provide new
or small groups with access to an online library of
what makes youth activities run (plus a hefty variety
of coloring sheets). Check out the form and share
your activities!
Our more in-depth and in-progress work on the
website involves creating parenting resources. I’ve
spent the past six months working on guidance to
publish for all in the East and beyond to use and
take into consideration. Please keep in mind that
these texts are not intended to tell anyone how to
parent, They are resources intended to give ideas &
information to consider based on what SCA youths
need in support and involvement from their family.
Before publishing publicly, I would like to workshop
these pages live with the populace. AThe date and
time of the meeting will be scheduled based on the
attendant’s availability.
I also still have vacancies for deputies to help in
creating and collating content based on age ranges!

CORPORATE POLICY XIX. DELEGATION OF
INVESTMENT AUTHORITY POLICY
The Board of Directors is currently considering the
following addition to the SCA’s Corporate Policy:
XIX. Delegation of Investment Authority Policy
The Board shall ensure that fiduciary responsibilities
concerning the proper management of SCA, Inc.’s
institutional funds are fulfilled through appropriate
investment structure, internal and external manage-
ment, and portfolio performance consistent with all
policies and procedures. Based on the advice and
recommendations of the Treasurer and its external
fund manager(s), the Board shall approve investment
policies and objectives that reflect the long-term
investment-risk orientation appropriate to the organ-
ization. The Board may, at its sole discretion, create
or eliminate committee(s) to advise the Board in
furthering its duties and may select, appoint, and
remove members thereto.
The Board hereby delegates supervisory respon-
sibility for the management of its invested funds
to the Corporate Treasurer, subject to the financial
limitations specified in Corpora, as noted below:
• determine that institutional funds are prudently and
effectively managed with the assistance of manage-
ment and any necessary investment consultants and/
or other outside professionals, if any.
• recommend the retention and/or dismissal of
investment consultants and/or other outside
professionals.
• receive and review reports from management,
investment consultants and/or other outside
professionals, if any.
• periodically meet with management, investment
consultants and/or other outside professionals

management, investment consultants and/or other
outside professionals.
• report to the Board (as needed) whether this policy,
investment activities, risk management controls and
processes continue to be consistent with meeting
the goals and objectives set for the management of
institutional funds.
• execute such investment transactions as are
necessary to ensure that SCA, Inc.’s investment
portfolio reflects the asset allocation, investment-risk
orientation, or other direction regarding the invest-
ment portfolio as has been established by the Board.

Barleycorn - Ostgardr Provincial
Championships
September 2, Crown Province of
Ostgardr
(Carmel Hamlet, NY)
Barleycorn goes back to basics and will
host several martial championships for the
Crown Province of Ostgardr. The provincial
championships for fencing, archery, thrown
weapons and youth martial will be held on that
day.
Heavy weapons fighters, the Viscount Sir
Eddie Memorial tournament will be held. This
tournament will have it’s traditional written test
portion. Study up on your heraldry and dances!
Children’s activities will also be available.
The site is wide and flat (on top of the hill!).
It also has several large covered areas and a
barn in case the weather should turn. More
information will come soon.

No mundane family of four (two adult and two

Champions! A potluck lunch, “plague sale,”
space for arts and sciences, Baron Muin’s
court, and good friends are some of the
many things you can look forward to! More
information forthcoming.
There is no site fee for this event and no feast.
There will be a potluck dayboard, please bring
a dish to share. There will be grills available
for cooking and we will provide charcoal. As
the site is a state park, alcohol is not permitted.
There are picnic tables under the pavilion but
we recommend you bring a chair to watch the
fighting. There will be plenty of room for pop-
ups or pavilions.
This is a great event to bring friends and family
who are interested in the SCA but have been
intimidated by the cost of other events.
The site is a state park. There are a few paved
paths leading to the bathrooms but much of the
site is grass and the ground is uneven.
The park does permit dogs, please keep them
leashed and clean up after them.
Registration fees: There is no fee for this event,
but donations will be accepted. Feast fees:

Carolingia 50 Year Celebration
September 9, Barony of Carolingia
(Westford , MA)
It has been a long and wonderful journey since
the first event in Carolingia, the St. Valentine’s
Day Ball held at Wellesley College in February
of 1971. Come celebrate with us as the Barony
of Carolingia honors the 50th Anniversary of
its founding with a celebration event. There
will be something for everyone!

We will have fighting, fencing, thrown
weapons, and archery, as well as equestrian
activities. There will be European dancing
instruction, A&S Challenges, an A&S display,
and a theatrical performance. We will have
a full day of Middle Eastern classes and
performances, ending in a Hafla. There will be
a hearty dayboard prepared by Lord Zohane
Faber, and a fabulous feast board prepared by
Lady Deirdre Grenewood.
The site is the 4H Middlesex Fair Ground
in Westford, MA. It is the site of our annual
Falling Leaves event in recent years. It is a dry
site, with no exceptions. We invite all current
and former citizens of our Barony as well as all
of our esteemed neighbors to join us in these
activities, or just come and reconnect with old
friends and new.
A Pas d’armes will be held to celebrate 50
glorious years. Honored combatants will have
the opportunity to display their prowess by
issuing challenges to honored houses, brave
companies, or bold individuals.
Be it singles or melee, matched weapons or
bring your best, warriors from the East will
meet the challenge. Participants are encouraged
to arm and dress to impress as each challenge
will be announced and each combatant
heralded into the list.
If you are a musician, storyteller, or performer,
we will have a performance stage available
throughout the day for you to entertain the
populace. Please contact our performance
coordinator to reserve a time to perform. In
addition to these performances, i Sebastiani,
Carolingia’s own Commedia dell’Arte troupe,
will entertain us with a show in the afternoon.
Later in the day, there will be a Baronial Court
of Carolingia, and a Royal Court.
Merchants are welcome and encouraged to
attend. There is no charge beyond the gate fee
to sell your wares at the event, but merchants
must contact the autocrat ahead of time to
reserve a space.
As we expect this event may be of interest to
many who have been citizens of our Barony in
the past, but who have been absent for some
years, we will have plenty of loaner garb (Gold
Key) available for those who no longer have,
or don’t fit into their old garb. If you know
you will need to borrow garb, please reach
out to our Gold Key coordinator with size
requirements so we can do our best to have
something that works for you. You can also
make arrangements with him to pick garb up in
advance, so you can be sure you will have it for
the event.
A hotel block has been reserved at a hotel
nearby - the Westford Regency Inn &
Conference Center. The hotel block will be
held until August 3rd. Depending on the
number of folks staying at the hotel, we are
prepared to put a shuttle service into place, as
the parking at the event site is limited. This is

stations to compensate for the size of the event

Harper’s Retreat
September 15-17, Barony of
Stonemarche (Marlborough, NH)
The wars of summer are over and our brave
warriors have returned home with tales of
glory and songs of triumph and heartbreak.
We will raise a mug to those we have lost and
regale each other with their deeds. In this quiet
time before the crops are harvested, wood is
stacked and animals slaughtered in preparation
of the long winter to come, the Barony of
Stonemarche invites one and all to join us
around the fire and share the stories and songs
of the summer.
After much trial and tribulation, we are happy
to announce Harper’s Retreat for 2023. Our
usual activities are being planned such as
fighting, fencing, archery, thrown weapons,
bardic, A&S and classes. We look forward to
hosting PAL again this year. In addition, there
will be more children’s activities and we’ll be
having more performances and incorporating
it into our other activities. Join us over the
weekend to relax and enjoy the splendor of
the new site and the company of good friends
during the day and around the campfire at
night.
We will be at a new camp this year. Camp
Glen Brook offers some cabins, but also some
rooms in the main house and wing. These will
be offered on a first come first serve basis. This
year we are again offering full cabin/room
rental. It will be up to the individual renting the
cabin/room to decide who to allow to stay with
them. We highly recommend keeping to family
pods. There is also lots of space for those who
wish to set up tents. More info on the cabins
and rooms will be added to the website by
early July. We will send a notice out when pre-
reg opens.

Come one! Come all! The Lakewood Ren-
Faire is back for it’s 42nd anniversary!
The dark days are behind us and it is time,
once again, to revel at a faire. There will be
fighting. There will be fencing. There will be
archery. There will be a 10 AM parade both
days to show off our finery to the public. This
is outdoors and open to the public from 10 AM
to 6 PM on Saturday and 10 AM to 6 PM on
Sunday.
A rose tourney is planned for Saturday and
Sunday to help engage the public, especially

Freehold (Bristol, VT)
Mountain Freehold’s Birthday Bash will
be held on *Saturday* Sept. 16th, from 11
am-7 pm, at the Green Mountain Family
Campground in Bristol. We are marking our
Shire’s 45th anniversary, so come and help us
celebrate. Former Freeholders, friends, and
neighbors are most welcome.
We will hold some Shire Championships:
Confirmed so far is Fencing - Marshalled by
Cat, Thrown Weapons - Marshalled by Clinton
(traveling from Coldwood, and the A&S
championship - Rosie will be taking volunteers
for judging (and there will be a class around
this prior to the event). More updates to come!
Our Shire’s Kelpie Cooks will be providing a
feast starting about 1 pm.
Bring your current A&S projects to display,
even if you aren’t entering the competition.
Bring armor, weapons and fencing gear so you
can play with others!Don’t forget your Feast
Gear & chairs for sitting (there are limited
picnic tables/benches).
Merchanting, bartering and giveaways are
welcome. (Please take unclaimed items back
home with you when you leave.) We will also
be holding an silent auction - run by Katherine.
The campgrounds offer multiple hiking trails
that vary in difficulty (so take a look at the trail
maps before wandering)
If anybody wants to put up a pop-up tent near
the pavilion, that is allowed. There’s a flat
grassy area for tourneys and lawn games.

*Friendly pets are allowed on leash only.
* Drinking is allowed, PLEASE BE
RESPONSIBLE! No one leaves the site driving
drunk - if you plan on drinking, please be sure
to have a designated driver, or alternatively,
you can pay an additional fee to stay the night
(camp; bring your tent). If you plan on staying
the night, you will need to arrange this on your
own, well ahead in advance, as this will NOT
be part of Birthday Bash.
* Smoking is permitted outside, as long as
people clean up their butts. Absolutely NO
SMOKING in the bathrooms and shower
rooms.

* Absolutely NO OUTSIDE TRASH IN THE
BATHROOMS. We do not want to encourage wild
life to find their way into the bathrooms.
* There are no kitchens available, however, there are
multiple fire pits, and a pig BBQ at our disposal, if
we need it.
* There are limited chairs (25) and tables (12) inside
the pavilion. We may need to bring a couple awning/
pop-up shelters, and additional tables and chairs,
for either A&S displays, or to help seat people for
dinner. PLEASE bring an extra table, chair or pop-
up if you can
* Be sure to clean up after ourselves, put garbage
and recycling in the appropriate places.
* There is a play structure and area for children; the
pools will be closed.
* There are running water bathrooms and shower
rooms we can use (again, please keep those areas
clean), and coin-operated laundry machines. There is
also an outdoor sink that has potable water.
* Wheelchair access is somewhat limited, and the
bathroom stalls do not have a wheelchair accessible
stall, unfortunately.

Bloodfeud In The Danelaw: A
Viking Age Immersion Event
September 29-October 1, Shire of
Coldwood (Peru, NY)
The year is 880 in a bustling trade/crafting
town on the border of the Danelaw and English
Mercia. On what should be a peaceful market
day, two feuding Jarls and their war bands,
come for blood.
This is an immersive Viking age event. We
will be doing everything possible to make
this feel like we are in 880 AD. It is our hope
and desire for all who attend to make an effort
to be in that era while still having fun. The
town has Danes, Norse, Swedes, and Anglo-
Saxons. Franks/Normans, Scots, Picts, Gaels
are less common. Moors/Berbers and Saracens
are uncommon but could be there. Garb is
encouraged to be Viking age and look the part
at a 10-foot distance. Viking age tents will be
located closer to the main areas to help with the
feel while other period tents further back and
non-period tent behind that.
The focus of the event will be the Bloodfeud
between the Jarls. There will be melee
scenarios all day to help each Jarl gain
wordfame and ultimately their revenge. The
fighting has a specific rule-set, and guidelines
that are different than regular SCA combat,
and I would urge any who are interestedWe
have set up rules for an armor as worn Viking
age combat with period armor and weapon
standards that will be enforced for the scenario.

There will also be a period archery shoot,
thrown weapons, equestrian and bardic that
will fill out the days activities and contribute
to each sides renown, as well as a filling period

the INNE, please) Children welcome in the
Inne with accompanying adults. There is a
feast on Saturday evening, seating for first 100.

Merchants! We need you to add to the rich,
immersive atmosphere of this event! Your
assistance will provide those in attendance with
the experience of a true Market day!
1)Merchants will be Juried and limited between
8-10 merchants. All items must be directly or
indirectly related to Norse or Early Medieval
English (Anglo-Saxon) Culture as much
as possible. No items clearly post-Norman
Conquest.
2) Periodesque tentage for vending is required.
“Birka” type A-frame stalls are recommended,

3) Cash is King! With cell signal being
incredibly spotty or non-existent we ask that
merchants be ready with enough cash and

post-event.
4) Barter is highly encouraged! Not only will
this add to the immersive aspect of the event
but it might also help in cases where actual
currency is not feasible. This, of course, is at
the discretion of each merchant.
5) Advertise your attendance and your methods
of accepted payments well ahead of time so
that people can prepare accordingly.
6) All forms must be received no later than
midnight, August 15. Merchants accepted will
be notified no later than August 20, 2023.
