II. PROJECT DETAILS:-

TITLE OF THE PROJECT:

LIBRARY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT:

The main objective of the Library Management System is discipline of the

planning, organizing and managing the library tasks such as issue of books, returning of
books, addition of new books and maintaining record of registered students’ database. This
project aims at making the tasks of Library more efficient and easy. Library Management
System keeps track of the students using the library and all the information about the books
in the Library and their complete details. The user will find it easy in this automated
system rather than using the manual writing system. The system contains a database where
all the information will be stored safely. The librarian can issue books to the library
members and maintain their records.Students can login and search for available books and
request and suggest for providing new books. Students can also login to find out books
issued to him/her and date of return. Students can also check for online notice board about
the workshop. The objective of the system is to be user-friendly and error free.

3
STRUCTURE OF THE PROJECT:

PROBLEM STATEMENT OF EXISTING SYSTEM:

Usually when a book is returned or issued, it is noted down in aregister after which data
entry is done to update the status of the books in amoderate scale. This process takes some
time and proper updating of records cannot beguaranteed. Such anomalies in the updating
process can cause loss of books or damage of files. This is also time-consuming and a risky
method of paper work. So a more user friendly interface which could update the database
instantlyhas a great demand in libraries.

Library management System (LMS) provides a simple GUI (graphical user interface) for
the Library Staff to manage the functions of the libraryeffectively. Library Management
System is a computerized system which could help the user to manage the library’s daily
activity in electronic format reducing the risk of losing hard copies of data. It can help user
to manage the transaction or record more effectively and time-saving.

Before we have computerized systems, files could always get lost because of human error
thus causing loss of records. Files could also get damaged due to some accidents like
spilling of water on the important files or some natural disasters such as floods or fire.
Before the generation of computerized system, there is often difficulty in searching of
records if the records are large in number. After the numbers of records become large, the
space for physical storage of files and records also increases if no computerized system is
used. There is difficulty in managing the space with congestion. If there is no computerized
system, to add each record, paper will be needed which could increase the cost for the
management of the library. Cost is a major problem to face while managing a library.

4
PROPOSED SYSTEM:

In the proposed system, we shall emphasis in improvement of control and performance.

The first procedure is the registration of students who arrive to the library. The admin has
the authority to enter the name, address and contact number of the people who visit the
library along with the reference number and the name of the book they want to read. The
following points are suggested for the proposed system of Library management System
(LMS):-

 The system is developed to cope up with the current issues and problems of library.
The system can add user, validate user and is also bug free.
 The system should be able to make a search, issue and return books and also be able
to view reports of books issued as per the database.
 After the computerized system is implemented, less human force will be required to
maintain the library thus reducing the overall cost.
 The users shall be able to search records by using few clicks of mouse and few
search keywords thus saving their valuable time.
 There could be an option of online notice board where the librarian will be able to
provide a detailed description of workshops going in the college as well as nearby colleges.
 Teachers can register themselves and have a facility to upload notes about lectures
or reference notes so that the students can easily find them in Library.

5
MODULES OF THE PROPOSED SYSTEM:

1) ADMIN MODULE:

The main module in the proposed systemis the Admin module. The administrator
can perform certain functions like register and validate students, add books and
report generation.

2) USER MODULE:

The User module would be having the facilities like student registration, student
login, online book registration etc.

3) TEACHER MODULE:

The Teacher module in the proposed system could contain facilities like teacher’s
login, suggestions for books etc.

4) BOOK MODULE:

We should be able to add new books or search for a particular book in the Book
module.

5) BOOK TRANSACTION MODULE:

This module in the proposed system would be able to issue books and return them.

6) REPORT MODULE:

Report module would be having various facilities like student report, teacher report
or books report.

Comments : Over all it is good..

If you want you can add some more functionalities by which an Admin can see list of the
defaulters and charge the late fee as per norms. This might require:

- setting for how long(how many days) the members can borrow books,
- late fee if not submit on time.
- Report for defaulters (ie who have dues to clear and need to return book(s))
