What Is Mental Health Safety?

The concept of “Mental health safety” involves preventing


injury to the mental well-being of workers.

Why it is Important ?
➢ Poor mental health not only hurts the individual, it also
reduces corporate profits.

➢ More than half the world’s population are currently in work


and 15% of working-age adults live with a mental disorder.

➢ Depression and anxiety cost the global economy US$ 1


trillion each year predominantly from reduced productivity.

➢ Twelve billion working days are lost every year to


depression and anxiety alone.

Poor Workplace relationship

Separated from the family.

Frequent travelling.

Poor Environment conditions.

Lack of Routine.

Long working hours.

Poor Organisational justice.

Low Work Clarity.

Lack of Recognition and rewards.

➢ Stigma is when someone sees you in a negative way because of your mental illness.

➢ Discrimination is when someone treats you in a negative way because of your


mental illness.

➢ Social stigma and discrimination can make mental health problems worse and
stop a person from getting the help they need.

As EHS officer we have to take care of workers physical safety as well as


mental health safety.

We cant afford to limit our definition of occupational health and safety to


only the “physical safety”.

Because WHO Said “Without mental health there can be NO true physical
health”
