Individual Mechanical Engineering Projects:
The individual project s are present ed below along wit h it s Abst ract , Int roduct ion, Working
principle, et c. so t hat you can underst and t he t opic much effect ively.
Automat ic Speed Cont rol In 4-wheeler by Cruise Cont rol:
Every day t he media brings us t he horrible news about road accident s. The concept of
assist ing t he driver in longit udinal vehicle cont rol or driving from one place t o anot her wit hout
t aking any rest makes an impact on everyone’s life.
So, avoiding collisions has been a major focal point of research in many aut omobile companies
and research organizat ions. Therefore in t his art icle, I am going t o explain t he Aut omat ic
Speed Cont rol In 4-wheeler by Cruise Cont rol in a det ailed way.
Abst ract of Cruise Cont rol:
Modern cruise cont rol (also known as a speed st at ) was invent ed by mechanical engineer
Ralph Teet or in 1945. The idea of driver assist ance was st art ed wit h t he ‘cruise cont rol
devices’ first appeared in t he 1970s in t he USA. When swit ched t he cruise cont rol ON, t he
device t akes up t he t ask by accelerat ing t o maint ain a const ant speed.
Generally, t he usage of cruise cont rol can be adopt ed in highways where separat e t racks will
be t here and you can move wit h your desired speed. But it could not consider t he ot her
vehicles on t he road.
When t he driver drives t he vehicle on t he road, he should have t o accelerat e or decelerat e
whenever required. but at Speed Limit Zones, t he vehicle has t o move wit hout varying in
speed and t his can be done using Cruise Cont rol.
Cruise Cont rol is useful for long drives across highways and sparsely populat ed roads by
reducing fat igue t o t he driver. This usually result s in bet t er fuel efficiency.
Int roduct ion of Cruise Cont rol:
Cruise cont rol is a syst em t hat aut omat ically cont rols t he speed of an aut omobile.
The syst em t akes over t he t hrot t le of t he car t o maint ain a st eady speed as set by t he
driver.
This syst em t hereby improves driver comfort in st eady t raffic condit ions also. In congest ed
t raffic condit ions, where speeds may vary widely t hese syst ems are no longer effect ive.
Theory of Operat ion of Cruise Cont rol:
The driver must bring t he vehicle up t o speed manually and uses a but t on t o set t he cruise
cont rol t o t he current speed.
The cruise cont rol t akes it s speed signal from a rot at ing driveshaft , cable of t he
speedomet er, wheel speed sensor from t he engine's Rpm, or from int ernal speed pulses
produced elect ronically by t he vehicle.
Most syst ems do not allow t he use of t he cruise cont rol below a cert ain speed (normally
around 25 mph).
Cars Inst alled wit h Cruise Cont rol:
Kia Sport age 1.7 CRDi 2 5dr diesel est at e
Skoda Yet i 2.0 TDI CR SE Plus 4x4 5dr diesel est at e
Volkswagen Golf 1.4 TSI 160 GT 5dr Hat chback
Nissan Qashqai 1.6 dCi Tekna 5dr [St art St op] diesel hat chback,e.t .c.
This is t he det ailed explanat ion of Cruise Cont rol along wit h various paramet ers. Let s ent er
int o anot her t opic.
Comput er Cont rolled Drilling Machine:
Current development in t he indust ry has been t owards comput er-cont rolled manufact uring
t o increase t he qualit y and quant it y of product s. Manual manufact uring of such it ems as t he
circuit board will have a big fault y case and uneven qualit y.
Then I have developed an aut omat ic print circuit board drilling machine, which is cont rolled by
comput er.
ABSTRACT:
The main aim of a comput er-cont rolled drilling machine is t o drill holes on print ed circuit
boards (PCB) in a specified area.
The program is writ t en in assembly language and a st ep by st ep approach is implement ed t o
cont rol four mot ors independent ly.
It generally consist s of a t ransformer, PC, MAX232, diodes, microcont roller, relay, st epper
mot ors, AC mot or, drilling machine, limit swit ches, t ransist ors, et c. Co-ordinat es are given
t hrough t he keyboard of PC by t he set of rules and regulat ions.
The informat ion sent from PC t o Microcont roller is passed via MAX232 which convert s
TIA/EIA-232-F input s t o 5V TTL/CMOS levels.
By t his microcont roller commands t he st epper mot ors and AC mot or t o be in-home posit ion
before t he work is done.
The ent ire working depends upon t he driving of st epper mot ors in bot h t he direct ions
(clockwise or ant i-clockwise).
The syst em is programmed t o produce t he pulses in a sequence at four different out put s (9
5 6 A).
These sequent ially programmed out put s energize t he mot or winding one aft er t he ot her in a
sequence.
The informat ion from t he microcont roller is passed t o t he drilling machine via a relay t hat
convert s 5V supply t o 12V t o rot at e t he drill. As per t he dat a fed t o t he machine, it can drill
as many holes as in a specific area.
Aft er complet ing t he t ask, t he comput er displays on it s monit or t hat t he job is complet ed.
To avoid frict ion, t he mechanical t ransmission part of each axis is designed wit h sliding
channels.
Aim of t he Project :
The main aim of t he project lies in int erfacing or in simple words, is t o make a mechanical
syst em work, making use of a personal comput er of basic configurat ion.
This project is carried on keeping in mind, t he needs of a small scale indust ry, which need
small-sized component s in a few numbers, which by ot her processes would cost t hem more.
This project makes use of a print ed circuit board t hat int erfaces a drilling machine wit h a
personal comput er. This syst em is mainly aimed at small scale product ion of print ed circuit
boards in small scale indust ries.
The syst em has an advant age of simplicit y in operat ion, moreover, t he cost of product ion
comes down for a small scale sect or.
Though t he syst em involves many small elect ronic part s it is easy t o st udy t he working, and
in operat ion, as we use t he simple user-friendly language in programming t he soft ware.
MECHANICAL CONSTRUCTION:
The goal here is t o design and build a very low-cost , very simple, deskt op drilling machine,
which is used for drilling t he PCB’s (print ed circuit boards).
Drilling t he PCB’s manually consumes a lot of t ime and due t o errors by drilling at wrong
point s, causes wast ing many PCB’s.
All t hese problems can be avoided by implement ing t he Comput er cont rol concept , t hereby
t his project work is t aken up and a prot ot ype module is const ruct ed for t he live
demonst rat ion.
Since it is a prot ot ype module, t he size of t he work or drilling size of t he PCB is minimized.
Due t o t he rest rict ion, t he machine cannot drill PCB of more t han 12 X 20cm.
The following is a brief descript ion of mechanical work.
COMPLETE BLOCK DIAGRAM WITH DESCRIPTION:
The block diagram of a comput er-cont rolled drilling machine is shown below which consist s
of t he following part [Link] are Microcont roller,st epper mot ors,AC mot or,limit

specific desired machining form can be called as a funct ion of a program.
The program should be prepared such t hat , it should cont ain all t he informat ion for t he
machining of a component which is input t o t he comput er-cont rolled drilling machine.
Depending upon t he input from t he comput er, t he syst em provides signals at t he correct
t ime and in t he correct sequence t o t he various drive unit s of t he machine.
The machine t ool receives informat ion from t he comput er and does t he operat ion on t he
machine.
The program is prepared by list ing t he coordinat e values of t he ent ire t ool pat hs as suit ed t o
a machine.
In t he case of t he drilling machine, t he coordinat e values t o be prepared for 3D for driving
t hree mot ors independent ly.
Two mot ors are used for moving t he plat form in X and Y direct ions and t he t hird mot or is
used t o move t he drill in t he Z direct ion.
This is a det ailed explanat ion of t he above project which is cat egorized under Mechanical

Development of CNC Program for End Shields by Unigraphics Soft ware:
The end shield is a part of t he t ransmission syst em which is used t o cover t he mot ors in
most of t he t rains. As mot ors play a vit al role in t he t ransmission of power, t his end shield is
used t o act as a cover on it so t hat no unevenness t akes place in t he surroundings.
In t his art icle, I am going t o explain about t he Development of CNC Program for End Shield
by Unigraphics Soft ware in a det ailed way.
Abst ract of End Shield:
CAD/CAM syst em has a nat ural break at t he point where it produces or delivers a Generic
form of Numerical Cont rol out put called CL-file (Cut t er Locat ion File).
This generic int ermediat e out put represent s t he pat h t hat t he machine cut t er will t ake while
machining t he part . It does not reflect and is not opt imized for t he specific CNC Cont rol

ICAO classified unmanned aircraft int o t wo t ypes under Circular 328 AN/190:
Aut onomous aircraft – current ly considered unsuit able for regulat ion due t o legal and liabilit y
issues
Remot ely pilot ed aircraft – subject t o civil regulat ion under ICAO and under t he relevant
nat ional aviat ion aut horit y.
Hist orically, UAVs were simple remot ely pilot ed aircraft , but aut onomous cont rol is
increasingly being employed.
Applicat ions of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles:
Unmanned aerial vehicles have most ly found in milit ary and special operat ions applicat ions,
but also are increasingly finding uses in civil applicat ions such as policing, surveillance, and
