Characteristics of a
Healthy Community
• Cases of heart disease,
hypertension, cancer, and
pneumonia are evidently increasing.
• The emergence of lifestyle diseases
such as cardiovascular disease, and
diabetes are also increasing due to
stress, lack of exercise, and healthy
diet.
Is Community Health

What does the word HEALTH mean?

According to the World Health


Organization, Health is a state of
complete physical, mental, and social
well-being and not just the absence of
diseases and infirmity. It lead to the
ability to lead a socially and
economically productive life.
Community is defined as a
sociological group in a large
sharing one environment. It
therefore includes the individual
and the family.
A community essentially consists
of people who stay or live in one
particular area and exhibit a
sense of belongingness.
Community is not just a
collection of buildings and other
structures. Rather, members of a
community sharing their knowledge,
beliefs, habits, customs, morals, and
laws which enable them to live and
work harmoniously.
Environmental Health

Environmental Health
encompasses all the interactions of
humans with their environment and
the health consequences of these
interactions (Instel and Roth, 2008).

preventing diseases caused by
contaminated water, wastes, food,
insects and other environmental
pollutants.
