The Use of Representation Theory in the Context of the Russian-Ukrainian War

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine is still going on today. The heat of the
conflict between Russia and Ukraine made many countries respond to this incident. Let's look
at the factors or reasons that caused Russia to invade Ukraine. In his speech at the time the
attack began, Putin emphasized that his party did not feel safe with Ukraine's approach to
NATO, which incidentally is Moscow's defense rival. In fact, he mentioned this as a major
threat to his country, especially after the annexation of Crimea in 2014. "Russia cannot feel
safe, develop, and exist due to constant threats from Ukraine today. NATO threatens our
historic future as a nation," he said in a speech in Indonesian. Russian as translated by the
BBC. The solution to the Ukrainian conflict is that the country must remove the influence of
Nazis or fascist practices and repressive measures (denazification) and demilitarization," said
Putin, who wanted to illustrate the suppression of the Ukrainian government against Russian-
speaking people. Solving Ukraine is only possible if Kyiv is neutral, denazified and
demilitarized. As well as Russia's control over annexed Crimea is officially recognized," the
president, who is also a former intelligence officer, said on the Kremlin's official website.
In this picture, many countries provide counter responses to the Russian invasion of
Ukraine. However, despite receiving a lot of criticism from other heads of state. President
Vladimir Putin remains adamant that his actions were not wrong, he was only doing what he
thought was right to protect his country both from a political, humanitarian and military
perspective.

Contextual Conditions :
1. Social context
In the picture above there are two different reactions or points of view. The first is a
counter reaction: many other countries consider that the invasion carried out by President
Putin is something that violates humanitarian norms where many civilians have suffered as a
result of the war. On the other hand, President Putin considered that his actions were correct,
namely to protect the Russian people and sovereignty from potential threats.
2. Political context
Russia invaded Ukraine because it thought that it was something that had to be done
to prevent the embryo of a thorn that would stab Russia before it grew bigger, so this embryo
had to be destroyed from now on because Russia was afraid that Ukraine would cooperate
with NATO which could endanger Russian sovereignty because At that time, President Putin
was adamant that anyone who interfered with their affairs would receive severe
consequences.
3. Historical context
NATO and the Soviet Union had experienced a cold war after World War 2. After that
the Soviet Union was divided into several parts and the main body was Russia. The joining of
Ukraine, which is a former member of the Soviet Union, into NATO made Russia furious
because they were afraid that this would threaten Russian sovereignty.
