What is netball ?

Netball is a ball sport played by two teams of seven players. Games are played on a rectangular
court with raised goal rings at each end. The object is to score goals from within a defined area,
by throwing a ball into a ring attached to a 3.05 metres (10 feet) high post.

What are the playing positions of netball?

Goalkeeper: (GK) The Goalkeeper is the last line of defence on the netball court, they defend
against the Goal Shooter and Goal Attack to prevent them from scoring a goal.

Goal Defence: (GD) A Goal Defence is allowed in both the centre third and their defensive
third, including the shooting circle. They primarily mark the opposition team's Goal Attack
(GA).

The Wing Defence can play in the defensive and centre thirds of the netball court. However,
they cannot play in the goal circle. Their main role is to defend the opposing team and stop the
ball reaching the goal circle.(WD)

Center: The centre is the glue that holds both ends of the court together, acting as the conduit
between attack and defence, meaning they need to be equally talented in the disparate
disciplines. (C)

Wing Attack: A wing attack is usually the key feeder of the ball into the goal shooters. They
are adept at taking the centre pass, aware of the location of other players at all times – including
around the goal circle edge – and able to transition the ball from defence to attack.(WA)

Goal Shooter: (GS) The Goal Shooter is only allowed to play in the attacking third of the
court. The player's main job is to score goals for the team. They must have great
accuracy, quick reactions and open up space to create goal-scoring opportunities.

Goal Attack: The Goal Attack is allowed in both the centre third and the goal third that
they are shooting towards, including the shooting circle. They are one of two players on
a netball team allowed to shoot and score points. They primarily mark the opposing
team's Goal Defence.
