Kevin Cyr - Right Place, Right Time

Cyr paints portraits of vans. He began his unique exploration of this side of city’s character in New York City. In the meantime, he spent some time on the street of
Berlin, Brussels and Paris bringing us new artistic records. Right Place, Right Time includes new oil paintings on panel in a range of sizes, depicting vehicles seen on
the streets of three European cities.
Cyr's fascination with vans and trucks is based around the idea that they symbolize a place and an ethos. He nds himself discovering the character of each city he
visits through its vehicles. He photographs them in pro le and then paints them onto wood panels, using many layers of oil paint, which imparts a luminescent quality to
the works. The more character the van has, the more fun it is for Cyr to paint. In his own words: These vehicles are the workhorses of the city and their owners seem to
go to great lengths to keep them operable. The largest piece in the show, Professeur Gosset, exempli es this through the broken passenger window secured with
cardboard and packing tape—functionality outweighs vanity.”
Cyr’s paintings, drawings, sculptures and installations have been exhibited by galleries and museums, internationally. His work is included in the permanent collections
of La Fondation d’Art Oxylane in Lille, France and the West Collection in Oaks, Pennsylvania. Cyr’s work has been featured in publications such as Desillusion
Magazine, Juxtapoz Magazine, Huf ngton Post and The New York Times.

“With a devoted attention to detail, Kevin Cyr paints old vehicles such as vans and commercial trucks covered in graf ti, rust, scratches, scuffs, dents and other marks
of distinction. Capturing all imperfections and signs of age, Cyr portrays moments of stillness in an ever changing world. Comprised of works on canvas, panel and
