Usually constitutes more than 50% of total hemoglobin in simple heterozygotes

The presence of this variant may interfere with the measurement of glycated
hemoglobin and or with Hb F by HPLC

Chromatography: Y can be referred as an adduct of the variant hemoglobin J,
eluted slightly before the F1 peak.
