Hb Le Lamentin

Variation data: Alpha2 20(B1) His-Gln

Case commentary:
• 57 year old male, known diabetic, routine HbA1c request.

Chromatography: See attached

P3 Peak of 24% detected

Other methods: See attached

This sample was also tested using the Bio-Rad VARIANT II Beta Thal Short Program.
This showed an Hb variant of 24% with a RT of 1.54min.

Hematology and Clinical Presentation:

Known diabetic, recent iron therapy.

CBC data:

HB 134 g/L
RCC 4.50 x 10^12/L
MCV 89 fL
PCV 0.400
RDW 21 %
MCH 29.6 pg
MCHC 332 g/L

Ethnicity: Unknown

Other studies: Final identification of this sample performed by DNA

Alpha-1 Globin Sequencing
NG_000006.1(HBA1):c.[63C>A, p.His21Gln] ; [=].

DNA sequencing of the alpha-1 globin gene has detected a heterozygous,

single base change (C>A) that causes a change from Histidine to
Glutamine (CAC>CAA) at amino acid 20 (20.3) of the mature protein.
This result is consistent with Hb Le Lamentin.
