REPORT ON INITIAL LATERAL LOAD TEST ON
PILE TP-02 07-11-2022

1. PURPOSE

The purpose of this report is to provide observations and inferences of the initial test conducted on
Pile TP-2.

2. REFERENCE DOCUMENTS

Following documents and drawings were referred to:

i. Technical Specification for piling works

ii. IS 2911 Part-4 :2013, Design and construction of pile foundations-code of practice Part 4:
Load test on Piles

3. TEST PILE DETAILS

Test pile number : TP-2

Pile type : Bored cast in situ

Diameter of test pile : 600 mm

Length of pile from COL : 16.55 m

Safe load : 3.0 MT

Test load : 7.50 MT

4. LOAD TEST PROCEDURE

The test was conducted as outlined below-

i. The complete set-up was set at the initial reading before the start of the load application
ii. For the application of load, a hydraulic jack along with a duly calibrated pressure gauge was
used. A pressure gauge was used to verify the load imparted through hydraulic jacks
iii. Load increments and decrements were given as per table 1
iv. For the measurement of Displacement, two numbers of LVDTs were used.
v. Displacement data of LVDTs were noted down with time records. Each stage of loading
was maintained till the rate of movement of the pile top is not more than 0.1 mm/30 min. or
until 30 minutes have elapsed, whichever is earlier subjected to a minimum of 30 minutes.

ii. Displacement observed during the test is as given below-
Gross Displacement = 2.01 mm
Net Displacement = 1.50 mm
Rebound = 0.51 mm
iii. Field data recorded during the test are provided at Annexure-1.

Figure 1: Load Vs Displacement Plot

v. Safe Load Assessment as per IS: 2911 (Part 4)-2013 Clause 8.4, the safe lateral load on a
single pile for an initial test should be the least of the following.-
a. Criteria 1: 50% of the final load at which the total displacement increases to 12 mm.
b. Criteria 2: Final load at which the total displacement corresponds to 5 mm.
c. Criteria 3: Load corresponding to any other specified design requirement.

Based on the load-displacement graphs following interpretation can be drawn.

Criteria No. Load from “load-displacement” graph Remarks

Criteria 1 Not Applicable Since displacement did not reach 5mm,
Criteria 2 7.95 MT Conservatively the test load can be
Criteria 3 Not Applicable assumed as load corresponding to
displacement of 5mm
Safe Lateral load (As per IS 2911, Part 4) 7.95 MT
(Least value of above three criteria )
vi. The test results confirm that the design lateral load of 3.00 MT can be achieved.
vii. This report has been prepared with generally accepted load testing practices and based on
the Load test data of the individual pile tested.
