REPORT ON INITIAL PULLOUT LOAD TEST ON PILE TP-8
04-04-2023

1. PURPOSE

The purpose of this report is to provide observations and inferences from the initial test conducted
on Pile TP-8.

2. REFERENCE DOCUMENTS

The following documents and drawings were referred to:

i. Technical Specification for piling works
ii. IS 2911 Part-4:2013, Design and construction of pile foundations-code of practice Part 4:
Load test on Piles

3. TEST PILE DETAILS

Test pile number : TP-8

Pile type : Bored cast in situ

Diameter of the test pile : 600 mm

Length of the pile from COL : 22.85 m

Design Safe load : 60.0 MT

Test load : 150.0 MT

4. LOAD TEST PROCEDURE

The test was conducted as outlined below-

i. The complete set-up was set at the initial reading before the start of the load application
ii. For the application of load, a hydraulic jack along with a duly calibrated pressure gauge was
used. A pressure gauge was used to verify the load imparted through hydraulic jacks
iii. Load increments and decrements were given as per Table 1
iv. For the measurement of Displacement, four numbers of LVDTs were used.
v. Displacement data of LVDTs were recorded with a time record.
vi. Displacement data of LVDTs were noted with time records. Each stage of loading was
maintained till the rate of movement of the pile top is not more than 0.2 mm/hr. or until 2
hrs have elapsed, whichever is earlier subjected to a minimum of 1 hr.

Table-1: Load - Displacement Readings

ii. Displacement observed during the test is as given below-
Gross Displacement = 6.918 mm
Net Displacement = 3.110 mm
Rebound = 3.808 mm
iii. Field data recorded during the test are provided in Annexure-1.

v. Safe Load Assessment as per IS: 2911 (Part 4)-2013
As per Clause 9.4 (a), for piles up to and including 600 mm in diameter, the safe Pull-Out
load on a single pile for the initial test should be the least of the following-

 Criteria 1: 2/3rd of the final load at which total displacement attains a value of 12 mm or
specified permissible value.
 Criteria 2: 50% of the final load at which the displacement curve shows a clear break
(downward trend)
Based on the load-displacement graphs the following interpretation can be drawn-

Criteria No. Load from “Load- Remarks

displacement graph
Not Reached Since maximum displacement (6.92 mm) has not
Criteria 1 2/3 of 151.74 MT i.e. 101.16 reached 12 mm and also the load-displacement
MT curve does not show a clear break, the test load
Criteria 2 NA (151.74 MT) can be conservatively inferred as load
Criteria 3 Clear break not observed corresponding to 12 mm.
Safe Pull-Out load as per IS 2911 (Part 4): 101.16 MT
2013 (Least value of above two criteria)
vi. As per IS 2911 – Part 4, test results confirm that a Safe Pull-Out load of 60 MT can be
achieved.
vii. This report has been prepared with generally accepted load testing practices and based on
the Load test data of the individual pile tested.
