What is Environmental Science, and why is it important?

According to the Iowa State University, provides an integrated and

interdisciplinary approach to understand and mitigate hazards arising from
anthropogenic and natural activities by focusing on key areas of environmental
chemistry, earth sciences, environmental engineering, atmospheric sciences, and
ecology. It seeks to understand the earth’s physical, chemical, biological, and
geological processes, and to use that knowledge to understand how issues such
as alternative energy systems, pollution control and mitigation, natural resource
management, and the effects of global warming and climate change influence and
affect the natural systems and processes of earth.

Now to why it is important, first of all we always have to remind ourselves

that there are no other planets that are exactly the same with what we already
have, which is Earth. Resources are finite, water and air are being polluted, some
species become extinct, natural habitats are being replace by man made
structures, even the remotest area in this planet are also being affected and many
more. Since Environmental science is a field that deals with the study of the
interaction between human systems and natural systems. It can help us
understand that what we are facing is a global threat and not an isolated case. Not
to mention it can help us to find solution to these problems. And no, these solutions
are not the same old - same old recycle, reuse, plant trees more, etc, indeed they
are effective yet what I’m trying to say is, environmental science can give us a
different perspective when it comes to engineering, innovation, reinventing things
that are deemed harmful to our environment, and allocate or find alternatives to our
limited resources.
