1. Udaipur:

 The most significant city in southern Rajasthan, situated on the NH-8 (old numbering)
and the Delhi-Mumbai rail line.
 An old princely state's capital.
 It is well-known for its palaces, lakes, and luxury hotels.
 Zinc smelting, fertilizers, cement, and marble are all industries.
2. Kargil:

 It's close to the LoC.


 Kargil is the only distt. in Ladakh with a Muslim majority.
 Known for the 1999 Kargil War.
3. Dras:

 Kargil is a border town in the Kargil distt.


 Known as the 'Gateway to Ladakh.'
 India's coldest inhabited location.
 The Dras War Memorial is located here.
4. Anand:

 Gujarat's major industrial city, located on the NH-8 between Vadodara & Ahmedabad.
 India is the birthplace of the White Revolution.
 It is a well-known Anand Milk Union Ltd. (AMUL).
5. Leh:

 Ladakh's largest city, located on the banks of the Indus River.


 Represents a typical Ladakhi & Buddhist culture.
 There are numerous Buddhist monasteries in the area.
 It draws a large number of tourists.
6. Vijaywada:

 It is located on the banks of the Krishna River, enclosed by the Indrakeeladri Hills of
the Eastern Ghats.
 A city of over a million people – the second largest city in Andhra Pradesh after
Vishakhapatnam.
 It is frequently referred to as 'Andhra Pradesh's Business Capital.
 Industries: Automobile body building, clothing manufacturing
7. Jalandhar:

 After Amritsar & Ludhiana, it is the third-largest city in Punjab. It is located on the NH-
1 midway between Ludhiana & Amritsar.
 It has a large cantonment & a military air base.
 Known for sporting goods, musical instruments, and surgical instruments
8. Dehradun:

 Uttarakhand's capital is located in the state's south-western part.


 An academic & learning institution.
 Forest Research Institute, Indian Petroleum Research Institute, ONGC, and Wadia
Institute of Himalayan Geology are among the institutions involved.
 There are also the Indian Military Academy & the Doon School.
9. Kolhapur:

 Southern Maharashtra's industrial city on the Panchganga River's bank.


 Was a Buddhist centre.
 Cotton textiles, leather goods, and chemicals are examples of industries.
 The Mahalakshmi Temple's Location.
10. Satara:

 Southern Maharashtra's industrial & historical cit


 Cotton textile, sugar, and scooter industries.
 Mahabaleshwar & Panchgani are both close to the city.
 It is a few kilometres west of Shivaji Sagar and the Koyna Dam.
11. Surat:

 Gujarat's largest city, as well as an industrial & historical centre, is located on the banks
of the Tapi River.
 It has a long history of trading through its port.
 Diamond cutting & jewellery are well-known.
12. Indore:

 The largest city in Madhya Pradesh, located on the Malwa Plateau.

13. Mirzapur:

 UP's industrial city in the state's southeast, just south of Varanasi.

 It is situated on the Delhi-Kolkata rail line.
14. Moradabad:

 UP's industrial city, situated west of Rampur in the Rohilkhand Division.


 Rustam Khan, a Mughal general, founded the city in 1625.
 The company is well-known for its inlaid brass work & electro-plated non-silver
cutlery.
 It is known as Peetalnagri because of the brass industries (i.e. Brass City)
15. Ahmadnagar:

 Maharashtra's industrial city is located on the banks of the Sina River, a tributary of
the Godawari.
 Sugar, cotton, and textile industries.
 Maharashtra's largest sugar-producing centre.
16. Modinagar:

 Western UP's industrial city is only 30 kilometres from Delhi.


 Industries include sugar, textiles, and petrochemicals.
 Ghaziabad is the distt. in which it is located.
 Modi Mills is best known for its location.
17. Ankapalli:

 Andhra Pradesh's industrial city, situated near Vishakhapatnam & known for its sugar
industry.
 Located on the Sarada River's bank.
 The largest jaggery source in southern India as well as the second-largest in India.
18. Solapur:

 Southern Maharashtra's industrial & historical city.


 Chalukya and Yadava dynasties' seats.
 Known for their bedsheets.
19. Jabalpur:

 An important industrial city in eastern Madhya Pradesh, situated on the Narmada


River's bank.
 A city of over a million people that serves as the seat of the Madhya Pradesh High
Court.
 Known primarily for its defence-related industries.
 The West Central Railway's headquarters.
20. Satna:

 Eastern Madhya Pradesh's major industrial city.


 The cement industry is well-known.

22. Cuttack:

 Odisha's most important industrial city, situated at the apex of the Mahanadi Delta.

1. Chennai Port:

 Chennai Port, formerly recognised as Madras Port, is India's second-largest container


port, trailing only Nhava Sheva in Mumbai (JNPT). It is the largest port in the Bay of
Bengal.
 It is a man-made, all-weather port with wet docks.
 Because of the port's existence, Chennai began to be regarded as the ‘Gateway to
South India.’
2. Kochi (Cochin) Port:

 Cochin Port, also known as Kochi Port, is a major port on the Arabian Sea – Laccadive
Sea – Indian Ocean sea route in the town of Kochi and one of India's largest ports. It is
also India's first transhipment terminal.
 The port is located on two islands in Lake Kochi, Willingdon Island and Vallarpadam,
near the Fort Kochi river mouth, which opens onto the Laccadive Sea.
 Tidal port examples include Kochi Port in Kerala.
3. Ennore Port:

 India's first corporatized port and the country's 12th major port.
 It is located on the Coromandel Coast, approximately 24 kilometres north of the
Chennai Port.
 Iron ore, coal, petroleum products, and chemicals are all traded.
4. Kolkata Port:

 The Port of Kolkata, officially known as the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Trust, is
India's only riverine major port, situated in the city of Kolkata, West Bengal,
approximately 203 kilometres from the sea.
 It was built by the British East India Company & is India's oldest operating port.
 Kolkata is a freshwater port with no salinity variations.
5. Kandla Port:

 Deendayal Port Trust, situated in Kandla, is a seaport and town in the Kutch distt. of
Gujarat state in Western India, near Gandhidham.
 It is one of the major ports on the west coast, situated on the Gulf of Kutch.
6. Mangalore Port:

 It's a deep-water, weathered port.


 Deals with the export of iron ore.
 It is the only major port in Karnataka's coastal state.
7. Mormugao Port:

 Located on the Juari River's estuaries.


 It serves as a natural harbour.
 In the year 1963, it was designated as a major port.
 It is India's most important iron ore exporting port.
8. Mumbai Port Trust:

 India's largest natural port and harbour.


 Previously, Shivaji's navies used this port location.
 India's busiest port.
9. JNPT (Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust):

 Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), also recognised as Navi Mumbai's Nhava Sheva.
 The largest artificial port in India, as well as the largest container port.
 The name Nhava Sheva is derived from the names of two villages that once existed in
the area.
 It is accessible via Thane Creek and is situated on the eastern shore of Mumbai
Harbour, off Elephanta Island.
10. Vadhavan Port:

 This will be India's 13th major port.


 With the expansion of this port, India will become one of the top ten container ports
in the world.
 To carry out the project, a special purpose vehicle, i.e., SPV will be formed with JNPT
(Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust) as the lead partner, with equity participation equal to
or greater than 50%.
11. Paradip Port:

 After independence, the first major port was established.


 It is situated at the confluence of the Mahanadi River & the Bay of Bengal.
 Deals with the export of iron and aluminium and a large amount of iron ore are
exported to Japan.
12. Tuticorin Port:

 The name of this port has been changed to V.O.Chidambaranar Port.


 It is a man-made harbour in the Gulf of Mannar.
 It is well-known for pearl fishing in the Bay of Bengal and is therefore known as the
Pearl City.
13. Visakhapatnam Port:

 This port is a natural harbour and the second largest port in terms of cargo volume
handled.
 The port is located halfway between the ports of Chennai and Kolkata.
 India's deepest port handles the export of iron ore to Japan. There are facilities for
building and repairing ships.
