1.3 ZF Range selector When the rotary switch is in the « N » position, the tip
lever does not function.
The range selector consists of a rotary switch and a tip
lever (shift lever). The tip lever is used to select gears and change
operating mode.

The driver uses the tip lever to select the gears required.
When in automatic mode, the shift system avoids shifts
which lead to over-revving or the engine stalling. Driving in the upper speed range of a gear is highly
uneconomical and should be avoided by the driver.
The driver can always intervene manually using the tip
lever without losing acceleration – for example, in The engine may stall if the accelerator is depressed in

If the vehicle rolls forwards – with transmission in

from « N » to « D », then the system selects a gear
suitable for the roadspeed. The clutch closes without
actuation of the accelerator pedal; now, the driveline is
closed.
