FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Commencement of the Juba Primary Schools Mini Competition 2023

[JUBA, SOUTH SUDAN, September 18, 2023] - The Juba Primary Schools Mini Competition
2023, organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) and the South Sudan
National Spelling Bee (SSNSB), is set to kick off on Tuesday, 19th September 2023. The
competition will witness an exciting opening match between defending champions Bishop
Mazzoldi Memorial Primary School and newcomers Saint Francis Primary School. This
initiative is conducted in partnership with the Central Equatoria State Ministry of General
Education and Instruction, targeting both public and private primary schools.

The Juba Primary Schools Mini Competition 2023 is designed with an innovative approach that
blends education and fun, encouraging young learners to explore the English language, enhance
their vocabulary, and improve their communication and comprehension skills. The ultimate
vision of this competition is to ensure that every South Sudanese child reaches their full
intellectual potential.

Of the 25 schools that registered for this 2023 competition edition, 14 primary schools have been
selected to participate in the rigorous challenges. The competition will span from 19th September
2023 to 18th October 2023, encompassing a range of activities such as Spelling Bee, Speed
Challenge Quiz, Speech, and Academic Debate. Each school will engage in two matches during
the group stages, with the top 08 schools advancing to the knockout stage, followed by the top 04
competing in the semi-finals. The best 02 schools will finally battle it out in the Grand Finale.

The much-anticipated award ceremony will be held on the afternoon of 18th October 2023.
During this event, the winning school, top spellers, quizzes, and the best teacher (coach) will be
announced and recognised for their outstanding performance.

Emmanuel Karaba Ezra, a core member of the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan
organising team, expressed his optimism for the competition's future: "Our interest is to make
sure that this program will run throughout the entire country in the next 2-3 years."

The Juba Primary Schools Mini Competition has grown from just five schools last year, a
testament to the growing interest in the event.
