High Note

10) Give at least 1 example of ways in which your parents or caregivers have
attempted to mold your personality. Have they been successful? Say why
Parents have a profound influence on our lives. Most things we know we learned
from them. However, sometimes they may feel too much power and try to impose
their own opinions on how we should act or what we should do. I have experienced
their attempt to mold my personality. The thing is that I am emotional while I am
talking or doing something and I may cry or talk loudly when something took me
aback. My parents, at the same time, have always tried to show me that they don’t
like such behavior. They would always say that I should be calmer and manipulated
with the thing that I will not be successful in life if I continue to be so emotional.
Even though they tried their best, I am who I am and I don’t feel the need to change
this trait. It is part of me and acting like this is a protective reaction in most situations.
16)Do you think the risks involved in motorsports should stop people from practicing
them? Say why
Motor racing is an extremely popular sport in many parts of the world, and brings in
millions of dollars every year as a professional sport. However, it must not be
forgotten that this sport is also extremely dangerous for several reasons. These risks
include dehydration, burns, and death. Moreover, except risks, it also is costly.
However, whatever floats people`s boat. We are not able to restrict people from doing
what they are passionate about. For most of them, it’s their lifelong interest and they
try to forget how many risks it has because they are fond of it so much. Motor racers
should just be aware of those risks and try to protect themselves as much as possible.
If people adore doing a specific thing they will never abandon it because of risks or
other obstacles.
20) Talk about the benefits of traveling using the quotation “Do not follow where the
path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” Ralph Waldo
Emerson
When planning trips people usually turn to guidebooks and blogs. Those often
suggest a certain route with stops at the same touristic hotspots. However, there is so
much more in every country. While all travel can be a fulfilling and incredible
experience no matter where you go, traveling off the beaten track can fill you with
even more fulfillment and excitement. It is a great way to step out of your comfort
zone, become a more experienced traveler, immerse yourself in the local culture and
learn about the country and its people. By omitting tourist hotspots, you also don’t
contribute to over-tourism and get to explore places without any crowds or entry fees.
When I travel, I enjoy fully soaking in the places I go to. I always want to
fully immerse myself in the culture and the customs. Otherwise, I feel like I haven’t
gotten to know the country and I don’t feel satisfied. So even though it may
sometimes be risky and hard, it will pay off as I will get an unforgettable experience.

9)Comment upon the meaning of the following saying and illustrate it: “The longer I
live, the more I read, the more patiently I think, and the more anxiously I inquire, the
less I seem to know… Do justly. Love mercy. Walk humbly. This is enough” (John
Adams, The Letters of John and Abigail Adams).
Our life could be compared to a person walking on stairs. They may go upwards, but
sometimes fall and get injured. Life path is challenging and the more we achieve the
more we are hungry for discovering new, the more we look for answers that bother
us, the more anxious we become. The thing is that when we find out new things we
broaden our horizons of realization that this world. Exactly because your mind is full
of knowledge in a lot of fields and you can dream up so many things to worry about.
Less complex minds may worry less because there isn`t as much thinking. So, should
we study less to reduce anxiety? Definitely no! What we should do is taking life
easier, don`t worry about things we are not capable of changing, and not overthink.
Just simply enjoy a life that is given to you and doesn`t try to leap over your
opportunities.
Conversation
13) Appearance can be deceptive
The proverb Appearance can be deceptive cannot be taken as 100% true. It has a
mixture of both good and bad. Good people, of course, look good. At the same time,
bad ones also wear the guise of good people, knowing that their appealing appearance
has some influence on others. However, some decent-looking people behave oddly,
while others, though ugly looking, behave very well. Therefore, judging a person by
their external look is impossible. A variant of this proverb says “Not to judge a book
by its cover”. Shakespeare was not handsome. But his writings have portrayed his
high intellect. Contrary to this, Walt Disney was not only handsome but had an
international reputation for his work and dedication to it. So, one must not conclude
by the mere external look of a person or a thing.
15)Fashion photography
The arsenal of fashion photography has always included teenagers with a great bone
structure, chic clothes, and a good make-up job. But with computer graphics, these
models look even more flawless on the page. Since the advent of Photoshop, the
fashion and advertising industries have been airbrushing pimples, removing wrinkles,
and shaving off thighs. Michael LaMont, a freelancer photographer from Los
Angeles, objects to digital manipulation because by removing lines, chins, and
shadows retouchers are erasing people`s individuality. But even the models know the
point of the picture is to create an image, not a portrait. By the time photo is taken,
the model has already been heavily made up, her clothes tucked into her body.
Colleague Megan Shoemaker says readers are savvy enough to know fashion
photographs do not represent real life. “I think that most people know that images can
be manipulated; consumers are aware,” she says.
18)Marriage and related issues in modern society
Nowadays people have the opportunity to live in whatever way they want. And when
it comes to marriage they shouldn`t care whether this person wants to get married or
the opposite. However, we still feel a profound impact of outdated mentality on such
things as people`s choices. It`s mostly considered if a woman hasn`t gotten married
before 30 this means she has no prospects in life. Some consider her to be
unsuccessful and selfish because she chose to dedicate her life only to herself.
Another common problem is once people decide to get married there is a lot of
misunderstanding between their relatives depending on the background and traditions
of each of them. Sometimes one side wants to hold a sophisticated and elegant
wedding with all traditions included. The other desires the wedding to take place in a
calm atmosphere with only a close circuit of relatives. So these quarrels may lead to
disappointment in each other.
