Brief instruction
for
replacement of milling drum on big planer series 504
with S/N° 504145 and higher

1.
remove the milling drum from the planer (from milling drum housing)

1.1 Remove the right hand side shield from machinery , support the milling drum by fork lifter
and screw off all bolts, that fixes the side plate of milling drum housing to parts mounted on
frame

1. 2 open the V-belt housing on the left hand side of planer, remove the V-belts, the driving
pulley on drum and the protection sheets on the rear panel of housing

1.3 Screw of all bolts, that fixes the milling drum to the side plate of milling housing and press
out the drum of its fit by two bolts M20x120, DIN 933
1.4 secure the right hand side plate of milling housing against topple over before start pull out
the milling drum

1.5 pull out the milling drum together with side plate
1.6 lineally pull out the drum

1.8 put down the drum at wooden beams and support it

dismounting of right hand side plate (if required)

2.1 secure the side plate and screw off the top cover

2.2 remove the cover


2.3 before press out the drum bearing, hook the side plate to crane by two eye bolts

2.4 during pull out the drum bearing pay attention to the two guide sleeves
2.5 remove the side plate from its fitting

Dismounting of drum bearing and drum gear (if required)

3.1 Don’t forget drain the coolant from drum first! (it’s about 400l !!!)

3.2 hook in the bearing and screw-off its fixing bolts from drum flange
3.3 secure the bearing against slip-off to pieces by screws (see following drawing)

3.5 pull out the drum gear according to the sown steps:
1 – remove the cover pieces for gear oil ports
2 – screw off all fixing bolts from the drum flange
3 – press out the gear from its fit by bolts

Re-mounting of drum bearing and drum gear (if required)

4.1 use new O-rings (2x pos.12, 1x pos.5 – see drawing 504120157) by installation

4.2 set in the bearing with sealing compound


4.3 guide the bearing into its fit by threaded rods

4.4 equally bolt-on the bearing to drum flange. Use anti-seize paste for all threads!
4.5 bolt-on the flange by required torque according to recommendation

4.6 hook the gear to crane and set it in with new O-ring and sealing compound
4.7 guide the gear into its fit by threaded rods

4.8 bolt-on the flange by required torque according to recommendation. Use anti-seize
paste for all threads

Re-mounting of milling drum assembling into its housing on planer

5.1 fit the bearing into right hand side plate and bolt it on by glue in place

5.2 re-mount the drum into milling housing, fully assembled with gear, bearing and side
plate

note for Assembling
Re-install the milling drum into milling housing in reverse order as described in chapter 1

Caution!
do tighten all bolts by required torque and grease it by anti-seize paste, accept of bolts for
fixing the side plate to frame, that you have to secured by glue in place!
5.4 only start adjust the bearing, after the whole drum assembling was installed into milling
drum housing

5.5 stop turn the bearing ring, if the measure is equal of about 24,2 ± mm
(see following drawing)

5.7 correct the gear ring position by turn, until the stop bolts with distance sleeves can be
screwed in.
5.8 secure the stop bolts by glue in place

5.9 grease the bearing until the grease comes out (circa 400-700gram)
5.10 cover the bearing by cap plate
