Checklist

Pre-Meeting Preparation
u Confirm location and ask for parking instructions, etc.

u Confirm your appointment time and the number of people


you will be meeting.

u Dress to fit the situation: one notch above company dress


code is usually safe. The conservative look is best, with
minimum or no perfume, cologne or aftershave.

u Psych yourself up for the interview by doing something


positive or talking to someone who makes you feel good
about yourself.

u Do your research. Be ready to speak knowledgeably about


the company and the industry by reviewing the latest news ,
product information, articles or releases, etc.

u Research the interviewers (have you checked LinkedIn?)

u Obtain a full Position Description for the role.

u Review your resume.

u Rehearse your leaving story (Exit Statement)

u Polish and rehearse your Positioning Statement tailored to


the role you’re interviewing for.

u Have 6 – 10 SOAR stories that demonstrate your


competencies and are relevant to their needs.

u Ensure you have considered your negotiation strategy and


salary expectations.

u Prepare questions that you want to ask the Interviewer(s).

u PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!

During Meeting (Interview)
u Be on time – approximately 10 minutes early is appropriate.

u Treat the receptionist and everyone you meet


on your way to the interview with respect.

u Stand and shake hands

u Relax, take a deep breath and be yourself.

u Answer questions positively. Be positive, articulating your


accomplishments and obstacles using the SOAR formula.

u Be mindful of your body language and posture so that you


are delivering a good non-verbal and attentive message.

u Trust your intuition when reading the interviewer and plan


your responses. Listen to the question and observe the
interviewer’s reactions.

u Maintain good eye contact and smile.

u Make sure you are giving full SOAR answers.

u Ask the questions you have prepared and allow


the interviewer time to answer them.

u Be enthusiastic when closing the interview


by re-stating your interest in the position.

u Thank them for the meeting.

u Determine the next steps.

Post Meeting
u Make notes from your meeting as soon as
you exit the interview

u Send a thank you email indicating your continued


interest in the role.

u Assess your performance – is there anything you would


change or do better in the next interview?

u Follow up with the agency or any contacts you had


to get the meeting.

u Do any further research as required.

u Make note of the follow-up date.

u Follow up when agreed.
