An Incident That Changed My life

There have been many incidents that had occurred in my life, but the one that changed my life
completely was the day I met with a terrible accident. This incident changed my life forever. It was a very
dull morning. On that day, I was in a bad mood as I was late for school. To make matters worse, I had a
fight with my mother that morning. She was telling me to make my bed before I leave. I got frustrated
and raised my voice to my mother. For no apparent reason, i shouted at her and just walked out of the
house in anger.

As I walked down the street towards the bus stop, I heard my mum calling me from behind. I just Ignored
her and started walking fast. Out of the blue, I saw a big car heading my way real fast. The driver was
speeding. Then, it happened. I screamed as the car knocked my hip hard. I was thrown into the air and
landed on the car roof top. It all happened in just a blink of an eye. I was in a complete state of shock.
My legs were painfully cold and I could not think straight. I felt pain all over my body.

"Accidents happen in the blink of an eye, but their consequences can last a lifetime. Stay
vigilant and be safe."
There was a lot of blood on me. My leg was bleeding profusely. My mind was buzzing. I tried to yell, but I
felt very weak. I could only hear the faint voice of my mum asking me to be patient. Suddenly, the world
went spinning before my eyes. I vaguely remembered being carried into a vehicle probably an
ambulance. Then, I felt someone putting some sort of breathing equipment on my face. After that, I
blacked out.

I did not remember anything after that. When I regained consciousness, I was in the hospital and my
head was bandaged. Yet, I felt no sensation or pain. I was just too weak to even move. My head was
heavy but I could manage to look at the affectionate face of my mum. I tried to apologize to her, but I
was too weak to say anything. My mum was holding my hands tightly and was in tears. Warm tears
dropped on my hands. My dad was also in tears. My siblings looked terribly sad and I could see tears
welling up in their eyes.

Something told me that they were not only crying because of the joy of seeing me awake. I could not
figure out what was wrong. It took me a while before I found out the truth. That was when I realised that
I could not move my left leg. In fact, I could not feel my leg at all. It was the most devastating day in my
life. Only then, I knew that both my legs had been amputated as a result of the accident. I felt like the
whole world was crashing down on me. I broke down uncontrollably. My mum consoled me by saying
that she was grateful that I was still alive.

“Sometimes the bad things that happen in our lives put us directly on the path to the best
things that will ever happen to us."

It took me days to accept the fact that I could not walk or run anymore. I was disgusted with my new
body. I hated the fact that my parents who had sacrificed so much for me would now have to take care of
me just like I was a new-bom baby. If I had not fought with my mum and walked out of the house. this
would not have happened. I had never felt so much regret in my whole life. If only I could turn back time.
However, I realised it was no use crying over spilt milk.

"A moment of carelessness can cause a lifetime of regret."

The physical healing was not the hard part, although it was pretty challenging. The hardest part was the
mental journey. I struggled with anxiety, anger and sadness. It was not easy for me at that time but I had
to accept my fate. Till today, I could still recall that incident vividly and replay it in my mind hundreds of
times.

“The road to recovery after an accident is not always a peaceful journey.”
