BACKGROUND: Some reports from media and schools indicates that most of the Zimbabwean
secondary learners from the various schools are involved in drug abuse, which are
probably causing negative implications in their academic performance.

TASK
As a form 3 science learner, you are therefore required to investigate the reasons behind the abusing of
drugs, their effects and how we can curb these effects.

LEARNER GUIDE: You are going to carry out the activities in two parts.

PART A
1.
a. Define drug abuse [2]

b. List the instruments which is suitable for data collection and explain the reason for using
each instrument [2]

c. You are required to put an insert of the data instrument/(s) you are going to use in the
research of finding the reasons behind drug abuse, their effects and how to curb these effects
[4]

d. Administer the research instruments in (c) above to the selected sample population [15]

2. Present and analyse your findings the results [10]

3. Recommend on how best we can curb the effects of drug abuse by learners [5]
