 Commentary: The servant’s knowledge of his Lord
does not stop at the essences of things, but rather the gnostic
of Allah beholds Allah’s creations with his sight, and then uses
this sight to traverse to his insight and behold the meaning or
perceive the reality or the secret which the Real concealed
within it; that is, which He hid within the outward appearance
of His creation. None can reach this except for its folk, whose
hearts Allah opened for witnessing and certitude. Therefore the
author, may Allah be pleased with him, notes here that Allah
did not say, ‘Behold the heavens’, but rather said, Behold what
is in the heavens (10:101); that is, what is within them of His

magnificence and the meanings of the secrets of His essence
that are hidden within created things. But do not be veiled, O
servant, by their external appearances and splendours from the
reality of meaning hidden within them, so that you can
recognise it in all things, and have understanding of Him in all
things. Thus the gnostic of Allah beholds the Real in creation,
because creation is the manifestations and reflections of the
qualities of the Real and His noble manifestations.

 Commentary: In His jealous protection of the secrets of
His Lordship and its meanings in His creation, Allah Almighty
has made densities, meaning material created beings, the
containers of subtleties, meaning manifestations and realities.
Or one could say that He has made the vessels containers for
the meanings. He did not leave the meanings uncovered,
because when the secrets of a thing is hidden it is recognised
as being precious, while if its reality were divulged and
became known it would be cheapened, and if it were famous it
would be devalued and depreciated, and people’s minds would
not be drawn to it, nor their eyes dazzled by it. A reality is like
a private part; if it is uncovered, it is exposed and devalued. If
fruit is left bare, it degrades and its value plummets. When
someone values something, he covers it. Consider how the
